Position: SENIOR ARCHITECT 

Salary Range: $85,692 - $98,446

In-Office Work

The Senior Architect serves as the SME and the main point of contact on assigned projects for all design-related questions. They provide technical expertise and guidance from inception through design, construction, and the turnover phase. MDHA offers competitive salaries and an amazing retirement program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage and coordinate the architectural design process for affordable housing, community facilities, open spaces, and other community development projects, ensuring the delivery of designs that comply with relevant code and funding requirements. 
  • Collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams, including cross-disciplined engineers, stakeholders, owner representatives, and contractors, to drive solutions and develop comprehensive project plans and design strategies.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of comprehensive community plans.  
  • Produce and maintain Architecture Design Standards for MDHA developments, including coordinating stakeholder input and data collection and working with consultants as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Planning and Development Analyst, other staff, and consultants to conduct a feasibility analysis for potential development activities.
  • Perform QAQC review of project interim deliverable packages.
  • Foster positive and collaborative relationships with stakeholders, understanding their needs and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Participate in project meetings, presentations, and progress reports, effectively communicating project status, issues, and recommendations.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Construction engineer, provide oversight, address, and resolve construction-related issues and change orders as required.
  • Conduct project site visits during construction to monitor progress, quality, and adherence to design standards and produce field reports for the team.
  • Review contractors' pay applications, ensuring accuracy, contract terms compliance, and project progress alignment.
  • Perform punch list field walks with the Assistant Director, Property Management-Maintenance.
  • Make informed decisions that balance design intent, cost implications, and project goals.
  • Ensure all project documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and properly archived.
  • Conduct post-occupancy evaluations to assess project performance and identify areas for improvement.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES: 

  • A Bachelor of Architecture Degree and Architecture Licensure are required.  Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in construction documentation utilizing Revit.
  • Experience utilizing Bluebeam and project coordination software with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of various codes and permitting requirements.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, Sketch UP, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, One Note, CAD, Navisworks
  • Ability to read and decipher technical reports, Code Analysis reports, geotechnical environmental, and all drawing disciplines.
  • Proactive problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience in mixed-use projects and corporate projects.

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Behavioral Skills: 

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing in both formal and informal settings; ability to establish working relationships with general contractors, developers, officials, community and civic leaders; ability to create strategic plans; must be detail-oriented and can develop processes and procedures; ability to analytically solve problems, make sound judgments and exercise good decision making.

Technical Skills: 

Knowledge of the principles and practices of project management of large-scale capital projects through all phases including Planning, Design, and Construction; knowledge of project development including scope, budget, and schedule for projects under a regulatory structure and with a set time frame; knowledge of LEED Certified Building criteria; familiarity with HUD multi-family housing programs, including project-based section 8 and the Rental Assistance Demonstration program; knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations governing construction and procurement policies and practices; excellent management, leadership and interpersonal skills to work as the primary subject matter expert for Project Management on MDHA’s Redevelopment.

Physical Skills: 

Willingness, mental and physical ability to perform the duties involved in this classification. Ability to perform work with or without an accommodation that requires sitting, standing, and walking; dexterity of hands, clarity of vision, speech, and hearing, and powers of observation; other physical duties as required.

Knowledgeable of financial operations in the planning and development process
