Position Overview
Under direction of the Principal, the School Counselor provides behavioral, educational, career, and vocational counseling to individuals and small groups of students; to assist students in understanding and seeking solutions to social, emotional, or academic problems and issues. The School Counselor serves as a resource pertaining to student behavior management strategies, and welfare and attendance problems and concerns; and does other related functions as required.
Essential Functions
- Meet with students regarding emotional concerns. Involvement in procedural follow up regarding student concerns.
- Involvement in the discussion of many student concerns with the Meyersdale Area Student Assistance Team. Contact parents to secure permission for SAP or agency involvement, both verbally and in writing. Management of weekly SAP meetings and the filing of On-Line SAP reporting.
- Meets with students regarding their academic progress.
- Assists in student enrollment. This involves a discussion of many things including: scheduling, credits, rules and policies, and programs of study.
