Job Summary:
The MDS Lead Mechanic is responsible for leading and supporting the day-to-day maintenance issues within the Molasses Desugarization Process at Michigan Sugar Company by leading a continuous improvement plan and increase uptime of equipment.

Job Summary:
The MDS Lead Mechanic is responsible for leading and supporting the day-to-day maintenance issues within the Molasses Desugarization Process at Michigan Sugar Company by leading a continuous improvement plan and increase uptime of equipment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Must effectively communicate concerns related to preventative and predictive maintenance, mechanical breakdowns, and any other concerns to management.
- MDS Lead Mechanic will also provide support to the maintenance crews and various skilled trade technicians in performing maintenance and repairs to equipment throughout MDS, Chemical Softening and Molasses off loading.
- Generate work orders, plan and schedule maintenance activities, lead shutdown work.
- Must be able to do heavy work, bending, lifting, and climbing up and down ladders and/or stairs.
- Ensure that working conditions are safe at all times through the Job Site Analysis program.
- Re-build and assemble machines or mechanical equipment.
- Inspect and diagnose machines and equipment for functionality issues.
- Strong knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office including the ability to create and complete work orders.
- Must maintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and Safety standards.
- Use various technical tools and measuring devices such as calipers and gages.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment problems.
- Understands basic mathematical calculations.
- Additional tasks added or assigned by management.
- Millwrights certification or equivalent
- Must have held the Mechanic title
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of industrial mechanic work
- Ability to navigate through computers and equipment HMI’s (Human Machine Interface) to operate machinery
- Ability to work safely and follow all safety policies and PPE requirements
- Strong organization skills in order to coordinate and track different equipment settings and practice.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and guidance.
- Ability to quickly problem solve and make decisions.
- Demonstrate personal leadership and positive can-do attitude.
