Job Summary:
Maintain, service, diagnose, repair, and overhaul all equipment and vehicles of campus fleet to provide safe and efficient equipment. The campus fleet includes but not limited to cars, trucks, vans, golf carts, tractors, mowing equipment, and small engine equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the repair and service of all MNU vehicles and grounds equipment.
- Diagnose, repair and service gas and diesel engines.
- Diagnose, repair, and service small engine equipment.
- Maintain warranties and inventory of all campus fleet and equipment.
- Repair and maintain gas, diesel, hydrostatic powered equipment, and various grounds keeping equipment.
- Repair and maintain snow removal equipment.
- Develops and maintains preventative maintenance of the campus fleet and keeps accurate records of service.
- Assist the supervisor in the training of staff in the proper use of vehicles and equipment.
- Fabricate and repair special items from other departments' equipment as needed and determine when outside services are needed.
- Performs all duties and tasks required of a mechanic including safe operation of all machinery.
- Assist with snow/ice removal operations at any time including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Keeps work areas neat and clean to provide a safe, aesthetic work environment.
- Communicate and cooperate with all campus personnel by demonstrating a courteous and helpful attitude while assisting them with their equipment needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Ability to prioritize work, communicate with others on scheduling services.
- Self-starter with the ability to complete task in a timely and efficient manner.
- Problem-solving, analysis, troubleshooting, and diagnostic abilities must be used.
- Continual clean and orderly workspace must be kept for organization, efficiency, and safety.
- Ability to use several computer programs.
- Attention to detail in work tasks and record-keeping is necessary.
- Definite and specialized mechanical abilities must be present to perform duties which if not done properly can result in damage to equipment or operator.
- Basic math skills are necessary and operation of standard and specialty tools to perform duties.
Education and/or Experience:
- Mechanical aptitude is essential for this position.
- High school graduate or GED, some secondary education is beneficial.
- 5 years experience in automotive and/or outdoor power equipment maintenance
Physical Demands:
- Able to lift 80lbs. squat, stoop, crawl, grip, lift, squeeze, kneel, push, pull, twist.
- Work in, on, and under machinery and vehicles.
- Frequent physical exertion is necessary to perform various duties.
Work Environment:
- Work with and tolerate a wide variety of conditions and materials including dust, grease, fluids, aerosols, fumes, gases, and loud noise intensity.
- All outdoor weather conditions include extreme heat, cold and rain, wind.
- Must be able to tolerate interior and exterior allergens.
- Hazardous conditions exist due to proximity to hot and moving mechanical parts.
