The position of Speech Therapist is responsible for:
- Selects, adapts, and implements diagnostic tests for individual children; assesses respiration, voice, speech, hearing, and understanding and use of language; assesses oral motor, feeding, and self help skills; evaluates social communication skills of children.
- Summarizes information from formal and informal observations; recommends goals, objectives, and treatment plans; assists in developing IFSP for each child.
- Plans and prepares therapy sessions; implements and evaluates therapy and parent education programs; prepares therapy notes; monitors and documents child progress; revises goals according to progress observed.
- Participates in reviewing selected referral and screening information; participates as member of the RISP trans disciplinary team in determining recommendation for assessment or appropriate disposition of referral.
- Instructs families to use appropriate assistive technology, such as switch toys, computer, and communication systems; assists in identifying and procuring equipment and supplies to be used by families.
- Consults regularly with other staff, providers, and physicians regarding a child’s treatment and progress, as well as recommendations to improve child’s treatment program and progress.
- Prepares schedules and coordinates involvement of staff and families in treatment process.
- Participates in RISP program development; provides input into child’s school IEP, and participates in children’s transition to other services.
- Composes functional reports, assessments, progress notes, etc.; submits appropriate documentation for compliance with federal and state guidelines and insurance requirements.
- Participates in the orientation and training of new staff members.
