General Summary: The Coordinator of Apprenticeship Initiatives will provide support to Middlesex's developing apprenticeship degree programs, including related services and resources for students, staff, faculty, and employers. Funded by the Smith Family's Apprenticeship Degree Pathway Grant, the successful candidate will collaborate with a team comprised of faculty/department chairs, deans, the grants department, the Associate Provost, and Provost to establish partnerships with employers. In addition, the Coordinator will work with students enrolled in these apprenticeship degrees, providing support and counsel that leads to the completion of the credential.
During this three-year grant, three programs tracks for development of apprenticeship degrees have been identified: Paraprofessional to Teacher Education, Apprenticeship Pathway to Dental Assisting, and Human Services. Responsibilities for the Coordinator include but are not limited to fulfilling the requirements and goals of the grant, educating MCC stakeholders on apprenticeship programs with a goal of expanding apprenticeship offerings, managing recruitment, developing/ implementing enrollment administrative processes in conjunction with admissions and advising offices, and providing guidance to apprentices on career development tools, services, and activities. Strong working relationships and communication with program faculty/chairs/coordinators and industry employers are critical to the success of the program.
With support from the supervisor, program coordinators/chairs, program advisory boards, and Academic & Student Affairs staff, the Coordinator will spend substantial time engaging employers, business development, collaborating with faculty and developing feeder relationships with high schools, industry, community-based organizations, and others.
By emphasizing high-quality and innovative delivery, and through thoughtful collaboration with all MCC stakeholders and staff within the Office of Career Integrated Learning, the Coordinator of Apprenticeship initiatives will support MCC's goal of providing equitable Career-Integrated learning opportunities to all students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver workshops to educate employers and community members on the apprenticeship model, its benefits for creating an employee pipeline, and how employers can participate.
- Work with the grant leadership team, the National Center for Apprenticeship Degree, Smith Family Foundation, and MCC community to develop and implement an employer recruiting strategy for Apprenticeship programming with local employers and community organizations.
- Engage employers and industry leaders in business development for apprenticeship degree programming opportunities
- Onboard new employer partners through program design and signing of LOI/MOU
- Maintain relationships with apprenticeship employer partners and update documents / processes as needed
- Keep database of new, current, and prospective employer partners
- Collaborate with the MCC Marketing Department on the design and dissemination of materials for Apprenticeship recruitment.
- In collaboration with the Dean and other OCIL staff, develop and deliver workshops and training for faculty looking to embed Apprenticeship experience into their programs
- Work with appropriate stakeholders of new Apprenticeship programs and events, ensuring detailed program/event learning outcomes and assessment plans are developed and implemented.
Administrative tasks and responsibilities
- Serve as a liaison, working with external and internal partners, staff, faculty and students; fielding issues, problems and complaints, and escalating or resolving them as needed.
- Serve as main point of contact for questions / updates from all apprenticeship employer partners
- In collaboration with OCIL Administrative Assistant, manage, organize and maintain all files of correspondence, reports, evaluations, resumes and other materials that pertain to apprenticeship grant programming.
Student/Apprentice-facing tasks and responsibilities
- Design and disseminate materials for apprenticeship grant programming and recruitment, in collaboration with other coordinator's on the OCIL staff.
- Develop and deliver workshops to educate students, staff, faculty on the apprenticeship model
- Develop and implement a recruitment strategy for apprenticeship programming across MCC campus and with staff at participating employer partners and community organizations.
- Coordinate, schedule and deliver on-campus, employer site, and virtual Apprenticeship information sessions to students and other MCC stakeholders, with the goal of increasing student/employee participation in apprenticeship opportunities.
- Connect apprentices with OCIL staff to receive relevant professional development support, for example: resume and cover letter writing, interview practice, professional etiquette, and job search and job retention skills.
- Serve as the main point of contact for questions / updates from all apprenticeship students, faculty and employer partners.
Apprenticeship Degree Programs Assessment Tasks
- Collaborate with designated OCIL staff and academic department in assessing the effectiveness of Apprenticeship preparation programming, apprenticeship development workshops and events, employer engagement, and apprentice academic and professional success.
- Collaborate with Institutional Research on collecting, formatting, and sharing data on apprenticeship development, implementation and grant goals; recruitment and retention numbers; overall impact on students, employer partners & academic department; and its impact in supporting MCC's equity strategic plan.
Requirements:
- Master's degree with six years of demonstrated successful experience in business development, student engagement, and overseeing student-centered programs and programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the community college mission and student population.
- Demonstrated experience advising and coaching students/ clients in a higher education setting, employer setting, or at a career center.
- Experience with career counseling and career assessment tools
- Experience with employer outreach.
- Experience or familiarity with apprenticeship and/or other types of work-based learning.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional time management skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, implement, and maintain the technology systems necessary to support the work.
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, advisory, and/or design data and information.
- Experience with equity-minded work and working with individuals of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and veterans, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual skills a plus: Spanish or Khmer.
- Project management skills a plus.

Location: Lowell & Bedford campuses, with weekly travel to apprenticeship employer sites.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire. This position will be eligible for a maximum of two days of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
