Qualifications
The Process Modeling Engineer will assist in the design & execution of technology development programs and plant process performance analysis. This role will become an expert on the existing proprietary calculation tools, and maintain / improve / extend their capability.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
- Work in accordance with the Midrex Code of Ethics and ISO requirements.
- Understand, maintain, and improve the existing suite of proprietary calculation tools.
- Develop in depth knowledge of Midrex in-house software.
- Provide training and support for end users of the Midrex Toolkit, and other Process Analysis Group managed software solutions.
- Develop programs in Qt, C or MS EXCEL for process modeling and data analysis. The engineer will specify the required calculations and validate the outputs. The coding will be completed by a computer programmer if necessary.
- Assist in the analysis and development of new flowsheets and equipment designs.
- Develop gas, water, and solids mass and energy balances.
- Participate in plant start-ups and plant troubleshooting.
- Manage the development and implementation of assigned Technology Improvement Program (TIP) activities, New Technology Notices (NTN), and other RTD activities.
- Design detailed test plans, equipment, test procedures, and evaluation methods as required for assigned RTD activities.
- Document RTD activities through the issuance of the applicable RTD reports (TIP, NTN, etc.).
Required:
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and reaction kinetics
- Proficient in C in the Visual Studio development environment
- Ability to define program architecture based on the program function / feature requests
- Ability to generate and maintain documentation and manuals for the programs
- Ability to perform calculations in the field of Chemical Engineering (e.g.: Heat and Material Balances, fluid dynamics, reactive system calculations)
- Knowledge of process development covering the range from process modeling/bench scale trials to commercial plant implementation and design
- Strong critical/analytical thinking and problem solving
- Ability to set priorities and organize resources to fulfill requirements in a timely manner
- Competent in Microsoft Office Products Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Proficient in Qt (or similar GUI development tool)
- Working knowledge of Aspen Plus or similar process modeling software, entire Software Development Life Cycle, design, software documentation, and revision control
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in chemical, metallurgical, materials, or mechanical engineering discipline.
- Experience programming in computer / computational modeling of reactive processes and validation of the calculation
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in process engineering design, or similar applicable experience
- 5% to 25% International and Domestic to conferences, meetings, and industrial plant sites
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Must be physically able to move around inside and outside of the facility including climbing stairs
- Able to reach above shoulders and to lift 20 lb.
- Ability to move around a project site, including climbing structures
