Job Summary
A receiving associate is responsible for the inspection and initial data entry for all flat roll steel coils and sheets purchased by MidWest Materials. The associate will complete quality assurance inspections of all material to ensure it meets customer and internal quality standards and communicate any discrepancies immediately. Additionally, the receiving associate will be cross trained to complete warehouse inventory and assist the shipping department with outbound loads.
Duties and responsibilities
- Inspect all steel coils and sheets received to ensure customer expectations are achieved regarding weight, length, gauge, width, piece counts, and surface quality of steel.
- Immediately communicate quality issues with the Shipping and Receiving Manager.
- Complete data entry of all pertinent information into the MidWest Materials ERP system and create barcode tags for all material. Ensure that 100% of inventory is properly tagged and logged in to the system at the time of reception.
- Ensure 100% of all inventories is audited and updated at a minimum of once per week. Responsible for updating or replacing any missing or damaged inventory tags.
- Build strong and effective relationships throughout the operation – with specific liaison requirements between shipping, traffic, operations, and steel purchasing.
- Follow all company policies and procedures; ensure uniformity of application between shifts and between coworkers.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Read, write, and comprehend written instructions, short correspondence, and emails.
- Ability to identify and solve problems.
- Mathematical skills to manage units of measure, fractions, decimals, whole numbers.
- Self-directed, reliable, and strong initiative.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with team members.
- Ability to use micrometer, calipers, and tape measure.
