Job Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Program Officer, the Director of Education will be responsible for various aspects of Millhill’s early childhood educational programs, including development and oversight of the program, ensuring consistency with the NJ core curriculum content standards. The Director of Education must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, function as a team member, and have the ability to collaborate with partners, and engage students and parents.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Advance the mission, philosophy, and values of Millhill on behalf of staff, children, and families.
  • Ensure that service delivery is compatible with the agency’s mission, policies, and guiding service principles.
  • Conduct outreach, administrative, and registration activities to ensure enrollment goals are met.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families; supervise staff as directed.
  • Assists in, identifying, scheduling and interviewing teacher candidates.
  • Prepares an orientation program and conducts orientation for new staff.
  • Trains, supervises, and conducts performance evaluations on all preschool staff.
  • Conducts classroom observations, evaluations, and provides feedback that motivates and encourages learning; reviews and monitors curriculum implementation.
  • Conducts monthly group teacher meetings for all teaching staff.
  • Completes all required paperwork and record-keeping on a timely basis and maintains all processes to ensure state and district compliance, and regulations; ensures all credential requirements at all times.
  • Anticipates staffing needs by preparing a weekly staff schedule and modifying it accordingly depending upon daily attendance in each classroom; coordinates daily management of classroom ratios.
  • Assists with maintaining all licensing records to meet state and local licensing requirements and accreditations as deemed appropriate.
  • Takes the lead in ensuring continued licensing of the Early Childhood Abbott Preschool programs.
  • Maintains adequate classroom supplies by monitoring materials and prepares purchase orders for signature.
  • Regularly communicates with families regarding student progress.
  • Regularly audits and maintains all records and files for students and teachers.
  • Ensures the physical environment and health/safety standards are in full compliance with local and state licensing regulations.
  • Manages relationships with state licensors and conducts Center evaluations.
  • Responsible for accident/incident reporting.
  • Plans activities and actively participates in staff meetings, training sessions, open houses, and other parent engagement events.
  • Meets regularly with the CEO and Chief Program Officer and provides a written monthly report on program operations of the education unit.
  • Coordinates summer programs, and after school care, as required.
  • Leads the development of the Early Childhood Abbott services within Millhill, including assistance with development of grant proposals, development of contract materials for funders, evaluation of service effectiveness and efficiency, and identification and implementation of program enhancements, and other related activities.
  • Serve as a role model for staff to maintain staff morale and relate professionally and sensitively to all Millhill staff positions.
  • Contribute to the agency newsletter and agency annual report, and complete annual accreditation reports (NAEYC).
  • Assist in the hiring of Family Workers, train and supervise Family Worker(s).
  • Complete a weekly report for weekly supervision and conduct meetings and task lists to ensure compliance with Early Childhood program expectations.
  • Ensure accurate completion of Board of Education registration packets and Millhill enrollment information for Early Childhood Abbott students.

Qualification

  • Passionate commitment to the mission and values of Millhill
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and supervisory skills
  • Strong child/family advocate
  • Knowledge of NAEYC and Grow NJ Accreditation Process
  • Current NJ Preschool through grade 3 Teacher Certification
  • Experience with Trenton Public School District a plus
  • Experience in child development, with community-based experience
  • Culturally competent/responsive, with the training and experience necessary to oversee the provision of educational services in complex cases
  • Knowledge of education guidelines and standards
  • Experience with performance management and strategies in a human services non-profit organization
  • Knowledge of education guidelines and standards for the target population, and an ability to provide leadership and training on guidelines and standards for education staff
  • Experience in engaging, diverse programming
  • Excellent oral and written skills with competency in email communications; familiarity with online teaching platforms a plus
  • Excellent judgement and sound decision making
  • Computer literate with excellent public speaking and writing skills
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and energy to lead a successful team

Education And/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Masters Preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of center leadership/management experience required

Pay: $51,983.00 - $131,653.00 per year
