Essential Duties
Supervise and lead the residence life staff (RAs), including:
Supervise and lead the scholars’ residence life experience, including:
The Head RA will be working from May 29 – June 14, 2024.
Note: May 29 – May 31 will be mandatory training days.
Minimum Qualifications
Duties will include all of the following and other duties as may be assigned:
- Supervision of an entire residence hall
- Planning and assisting with recreational activities
- Driving van and/or chaperoning field trips, etc.
- Attending daily staff meeting (with director, assistant director, RA’s)
- Leading daily dorm meetings (with RA’s)
- Report any serious concerns from dorm meetings to director
- Visiting wing meetings every evening
- Evening dorm checks
- Handle first aid
- Relay information to RA’s and scholars
- Immediately respond to all reported problems (homesickness, maintenance issues, interpersonal conflicts, depression, any other concerns)
- Enforce lights-out
- Be on time for and fully participate in evening activities
- Conduct head counts at all evening and weekend events
- Supervise dorm check in and check out (certify every room is clean before releasing staff)
- Organize ID checks at recreation
- Supervise and support RA staff including the following:
- Provide training for RA’s regarding leading wing meetings
- Respond to concerns, take care of their needs in a timely manner
- Enforce MGS rules
- Enforce RA contracts (not leaving dorms, personal time, etc…)
- Model professionalism for RA staff
- Act as liaison between MGS and MUW Community Living, including:
- Organizing scholar, staff, and faculty room assignments in the residence halls
- Reporting any residence hall requests (maintenance, etc.) to Community Living
- Ensuring that scholars and residential faculty clean before final move-out
- In the event of an emergency, follow appropriate protocol to ensure safety of all staff and scholars
Supervise and lead the residence life staff (RAs), including:
- Developing and leading/assisting in RA/RAT training prior to the MGS session
- Organizing and monitoring duty rotations for RAs
- Checking in with residence staff at assigned locations during scholars’ free hours
- Visiting wing meetings nightly to answer questions and collect attendance reports
- Mediating disagreements between residence staff members
- Organizing and distributing information to residence staff members
- Taking final responsibility for ensuring that all residence life needs are met
Supervise and lead the scholars’ residence life experience, including:
- Administering consequences/conferences according to MGS discipline guidelines
- Mediating conflicts between scholars, and/or between scholars and staff
- Monitoring scholars’ medical needs, including injuries, emergencies, and pre-existing conditions and medications
- Reporting all emerging medical situations to MGS Director, administering first aid when necessary, and transporting scholars to a medical facility when necessary
- Organizing and distributing information to scholars.
- Supervise set-up of residence halls prior to scholar move-in, including checking for proper utilities (A/C, lights, etc.) and furniture, and distributing scholar materials (t-shirts, binders, etc.)
- Clear dorms in the mornings
- Supervision of Residence Hall Assistants and other duties as assigned
The Head RA will be working from May 29 – June 14, 2024.

- Ability to work with people
- Desire to work with college & high school age individuals
- Valid Drivers License
- Availability during the entire program
- Communication skills
- Proficiency with computers, email, word processing, etc.
Head Resident (HR) supervise the resident assistants as well as the scholars as referred by the RA’s. HR will assist with planning and supervising recreation as well as evening activities. Applications are available to all interested parties but preference will be given to former MGS scholars, individuals with experience working with gifted students, individuals with demonstrated leadership experience, and those who have completed college.
