Job Summary:
The Lab Tech (LT) is responsible for performing Laboratory procedures, including moderate complexity procedures in all moderate complexity sub-departments in the Laboratory. Additionally, he/she is responsible for functioning well as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May directly supervise the phlebotomists and Certified Medical Lab Assistants.

This position has an OSHA Category I level of exposure to blood and body substances. Category I tasks are all procedures or other job-related tasks involving an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or body tissues or a potential for spills or splashes with blood, body fluids or tissues. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Promptly attends work as scheduled and completes position responsibilities by following established guidelines & protocols within the appropriate time frame.
- Maintains confidentiality of the patient’s medical condition, personal problems, and medical record.
- Shows initiative in completing job responsibilities.
- Is neat, clean, and dressed according to the Dress Code Policy.
- Works cooperatively and respectfully with other personnel, showing a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
- Demonstrates good skills in all forms of communication.
- Performs analysis of body fluids in all moderate complexity areas of the laboratory.
- Works with Laboratory LIS System and hospital computer system.
- Prepares patient and statistical reports.
- Works with other health professionals to provide quality patient care.
- Performs Phlebotomy procedures.
- Performs quality control, calibration and maintenance procedures on all laboratory equipment. Informs MLT/MLS and/or Lab Director of problems or discrepancies.
- Approaches the patient/significant other/visitor with a consistent respectful and concerned attitude, always striving for excellent customer service.
- Maintains education, credentials and development appropriate for position.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and neat work area.
- Supports the hospital mission and values – Standards of Performance and adheres to established hospital and departmental guidelines and protocols.
- Supports the hospital and helps to maintain the highest quality healthcare and strives to meet regulatory guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:Required Skills/Abilities:
- Basic computer skills required.
- Basic operation of lab equipment.
Education and Experience:
- Have earned a high school diploma or equivalent; and
- Have documentation of training appropriate for the testing performed prior to analyzing patient specimens.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds . Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral visions, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
