What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Prevention Advocate position at MN Prevention & Recovery Alliance?
Purpose: Temporary school calendar year position. Articulate individuals with excellent presentation skills & ability to relate to high school & middle school students needed to assist the drug and alcohol prevention program by presenting their own story of past addiction to groups throughout the twin cities metro area schools.
Classification: Regular, Full-time, Hourly, Non-exempt. Position is approximately 9 months in length.
Reports to: Youth Prevention Specialist
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Development of personal story to be communicated in presentation format.
- Presenting and sharing personal story of addiction in and not limited to, classroom presentations, fundraising meetings, college presentations, church youth group presentations, parent presentations and business presentations
- Facilitation of small group sessions, including teaching of developed curriculum.
- Assist program coordinator with daily tasks as needed
- Assist with program development and continued curriculum updates
- Assist with Social Media outreach
- Professionally representing KTT at networking events
- Data entry and office tasks
Qualifications:
- Must have a Relapse Prevention Plan Developed (with a personal story of overcoming addiction)
- Personal desire to steer teenagers from drug and alcohol use.
- Strong interest in developing public presentation skills and a desire for growth in that area
- Past experience in identifying and providing leadership for collaborative groups.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Assertive individual with pleasant, cordial attitude when working with people.
- Ability to remain on task and follow projects through to completion, a self-starter.
- Maintain professional standards of conduct and appearance with co-workers and the public (while working and not working, as we are a public example.)
- Must be sober at least 1 year and living in a moral lifestyle worthy of example.
- Trustworthy with the integrity of job responsibilities.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record that will be accepted by this organization’s vehicle insurance carrier.
- Approved by Department of Health and Human Services
Compensation range: $16-18/hr
