JOB DEFINITION:
Under general direction of the Principal or their designee, the Attendance Intervention Specialist confers with students, parents, school personnel, and community agencies, regarding problems or concerns related to student attendance and welfare through home visits, parent conferences, and school based meetings including classroom presentations.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Essential Duties:
- Provides assistance to families and students with individual attendance problems, providing appropriate interventions and supports.
- Maintains continuous communication with a variety of public agencies, providing services to students and parents.
- Establishes and conducts parent and student informational meetings/trainings geared to improve school attendance, including attendance laws, regulations, policies and procedures, as well as the connection between attendance and school achievement.
- Informs school personnel on problems of attendance and general child welfare; attendance monitoring including chronic excused and/or unexcused absences.
- Provides direct services for intervention, and coordinates community resources for students and families with the goal of improving attendance.
- Inputs attendance and intervention data into student data systems in order to ensure accurate data and tracking.
- Completes reports on a weekly and monthly basis for the purpose of evaluating intervention attempts for students who are chronically absent.
- Participates in Tier 2 and Tier 3 student meetings.
- Fosters communication for the purpose of establishing positive relationships between parents, students, staff and others.
- Makes home visits with parents and students for the purpose of checking on students who are chronically absent and gaining parental support in students’ educational and social development.
- Collaborates with the attendance clerk and community liaison in order to identify students who need additional support or follow up in regards to attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
- Assists in the supervision of campus conduct, safety and truancy.
- Seeks information and understanding of the student’s home and community background and the relationship of this background to the student’s performance in the school.
- Works with the school administration and Attendance team to provide information, monitor student progress through the truancy process.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to write, use the telephone, computer, calculator, and office machines at required speed and accuracy.
- Vision sufficient to read handwritten and printed materials, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines.
- Hearing sufficient to communicate in person and hold telephone conversations in normal range (approximately 60 decibels).
- Speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distances on the telephone and addressing groups.
- Physical agility to sit, stand, kneel, walk, push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, and to reach overhead.
- Physical stamina sufficient to sustain light to medium physical labor for up to 8 hours, sit and/or walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, District, school site to site) for sustained periods of time on hard flooring, climb slopes, stairs, ramps, and to respond to emergency situations.
- Physical strength sufficient to periodically lift and/or carry 25 pounds of materials or supplies; occasionally lift 50 or more pounds with assistance.
- Occasionally push and/or pull a variety of tools, equipment, or objects weighing 80 or more pounds.
- Typically an indoor work environment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred three (3) years of successful experience in a public school setting preferred (working with students, parents, school staff, and community agencies). Any combination of training and/or experience demonstrating the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered by the District Administration and/or the Governing Board.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license
- First Aid/CPR required within first six (6) months of employment
Knowledge of:
- Planning, organization, and operation/activities.
- Laws, regulations, policies and procedures related to attendance.
- Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Oral and written communication skills in English.
- Technology and computer software applications relative to school systems and student management systems.
Ability to:
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Meet schedules and timelines.
- Work effectively with students, parents, teachers, management staff, and community agencies.
- Have adaptable work schedule (working some evenings and/or weekends).

Pay: $24.53 - $31.38 per hour
