HR Specialist

The University seeks a full-time, 37.5 hours a week, 12-month HR Specialist for its Human Resource Office on the Mount Vernon Main Campus. The position reports to the Director of Human Resources and is available immediately, upon appointment of a successful candidate. A full complement of benefits is provided, including a health care plan, retirement contributions and tuition assistance (self and dependents). The candidate will also receive generous holidays, and vacation and sick days.
Responsibilities for this position include:
- Accurately enter new hire information, employee changes (promotions, terminations, salary updates), and other relevant HR data into the HRIS (Human Resource Information System)
- Assist with the administration of employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits
- Serve as a contact for employees with questions or issues regarding their paychecks or benefits
- Ensure deductions related to benefits are accurate and updated in the payroll system
- Address employee inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and timekeeping
- Maintain and update employee records and ensure compliance with confidentiality and data protection regulations
- Update and post job descriptions on the company’s website, external job boards and communicate opening internally by email
- Assist with the onboarding process for new employees, including sending offer letters, preemployment background checks and coordinating and ensuring the completion of new hire paperwork to ensure a smooth transition into the company
- Assist in the payroll process, including the calculation of hours, wages, deductions, taxes, and other payroll-related entries
- Ensure all payroll-related transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner
- Address any issues related to timekeeping, including, supervisor approvals, incorrect entries, etc
- Assist the HR and payroll department with various administrative tasks such as filing, reporting (IPEDS/1095), and audits
- Other duties as assigned
Expectations for the successful candidate:
- Associates Degree Required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Minimum 1 year of payroll, HR or related experience
- Personal commitment to Jesus Christ

- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
- An exceptional work ethic and highly detail oriented
- Proven discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive employee information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
