Wage Range: $22-35/hr annual bonus incentive

Job Summary
MTech is seeking a medium to high level Total Station Operator with career aspirations and both technical and demonstrated leadership skills. The Total Station Layout Surveyor position focuses on bridging the gap between the VDC process and Installation. The operator is responsible for the layout of all Mechanical and Plumbing systems and components for the construction field crew. This person will work as a support function to all departments within MTech and Field teams with open communication and needs.
A successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Create and implement point files from coordinated model exports input into the total station machine while using feedback for modifications from the field and operations teams.
  • Operate the total station machine in the field for project layout
    • Proper machine setup, calibration, break-down and transport.
    • Acquiring and collecting accurate and reliable control points.
    • Laying out hanger points, penetrations for sleeves, pads, equipment, etc.
    • QA/QC of job to ensure all possible layout points have been marked and collected.
  • Complete detailed Total Station daily report after each day of layout in the field.
  • Follow MTech Mechanical detailing CAD standards when composing files and issuing documents to field team. Prepare detailed hanger layout drawings, shop drawings, and spools for prefabrication and field install in support of CAD department operations when not in the field.
  • Communicate with Field Managers to field needs are met, and to address any issues encountered during layout.
  • Understand and establish positive and functional job relationships.
  • Effectively participate on MTech Mechanical team to satisfy the customer’s needs while communicating effectively with internal and external customers on a daily basis to ensure that chain of information is continuous.
  • Adapt to changes in jobsite conditions and be proactive about accomplishing task. (i.e. weather, design changes, restricted access areas)
  • Working overtime and weekends as required to meet scheduling deadlines and project goals.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and efficiency in software to help assist and train other members of the department.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected in order to meet the requirements of this position.

Qualified candidates will possess the following education and experience:
  • Positive attitude
  • 1 years’ work experience in the Construction or MEP industry; either field work, mechanical survey, or creating detailed fabrication and installation drawings.
  • Must be approved to drive a company vehicle or drive on behalf of the company.
  • AutoCAD or Revit experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to accurate evaluation of structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems if experienced.  Willing to receive training on accurate evaluation of mechanical systems if not experienced.
  • Knowledge of hanger installation practices, or general familiarity with process.
  • Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Windows operating environment, including email and Microsoft Office software and Bluebeam.
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work alone as well as work in a team environment as project requirements dictate.
  • General computer software knowledge, including Microsoft Office, Word, Xcel and Bluebeam.
  • Knowledge of Trimble FieldLink is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to work on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to schedule changes and externalities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at different levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment or independently, flexibility to adapt to changing needs/situations.
  • Willingness to travel for short periods of time in order to support MTech Field Operations across Colorado.

Work Environment
This position takes place in a mix of office and field environment. Work is physical in nature and will require standing and walking for up to 80% of the time. The work environment is generally favorable, however exposure to adverse and extreme weather conditions is possible. Lighting and temperature are reasonable.  Work is primarily performed in a field environment using the RTS (Robotic Total Station).  Supplementary functions in support of VDC department will be secondary to field and will be performed in an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
