Job Overview:
Medical Technology Industries (MTI) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented CNC Machining Supervisor to lead our CNC machining operations in the manufacturing of high-quality class 1 medical devices. This position is a working supervisor position and requires both the supervision of the team and the operation of the machines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CNC operations, team leadership, and a deep understanding of the regulations and standards required in the class 1 medical device industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead a team of CNC Machinists and Operators in the production of precision metal medical device components.
- Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Monitor CNC machine performance. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. Coordinate machine maintenance and repairs.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to ensure products are manufactured to meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA standards).
- Work side by side with CNC Machine Operators and Machinists, contributing to the manufacturing output and goals.
- Assist with CNC programing, machine setups, and machine operation.
- Develop and maintain production documentation, including work instructions, process flows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure translation of production documentation into languages as needed for non-English speakers that are on the team.
- Train, mentor, and develop CNC machinists and other production staff.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory protocols and create a culture of safety within the department.
- Perform regular inspections of tools and equipment and maintain a functional inventory of tools, materials, and supplies.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency, reduce waste, and increase product quality.
- Use and promote 6S to raise awareness and promote an environment of safety, cleanliness, organization, standardization, and efficiency.
- Manage individual and team performance. Frequently perform check-ins, provide coaching and feedback, listen, and promote skill development opportunities for the team and individuals.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or vocational training in machining, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC machining, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role within the medical device manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling, and CNC programming.
- Understanding of medical device regulations and quality management systems (ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820).
- Experience with machining steel, stainless steel, aluminum and other metals.
- Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues related to CNC machines and production processes.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, train, and manage a team effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and other production teams.
- Experience maintaining high-quality standards in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machines and advanced machining techniques.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and process optimization.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and data-driven decision-making.
Trained / Experienced with LEAN and 6 sigma in a manufacturing environment with proven use of LEAN and 6 sigma tools.
