About the Role:
As the Director of Data Engineering, you will oversee the design, development, and management of our data infrastructure and engineering teams. Your primary goal will be to ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of our data systems while fostering a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture. You will work closely with data scientists, analysts, business stakeholders, and IT teams to ensure the seamless integration and delivery of high-quality, timely data.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Strategic Vision:
    • Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of data engineers, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical vision.
    • Define and drive the strategic direction of the data engineering function, ensuring alignment with overall company objectives.
    • Work closely with senior leadership to establish and execute a data strategy that supports business intelligence, machine learning, and analytics initiatives.
    • Drive the development of best practices across data quality, integrity, compliance and security.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Collaborate across sales, customer service, along with data science and product to translate business needs into actionable and deliverable solutions.
    • Partner with CTO to ensure the data engineering function aligns with the company’s data strategy and growth focus.
    • Act as a thought leader, helping to shape MVP’s data culture and democratization of our data across all stakeholders and clients.
  • Data Architecture & Infrastructure:
    • Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, reliable, and efficient data architectures that can support both structured and unstructured data at scale.
    • Develop and manage data pipelines, data lakes, data warehouses, and other infrastructure components critical to the organization’s data needs.
    • Ensure the availability and integrity of data by implementing best practices for data storage, retrieval, and processing.
  • Data Quality & Governance:
    • Establish and enforce data quality standards and procedures to ensure the reliability, accuracy, and completeness of data.
    • Implement robust data governance frameworks and practices to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and internal policies.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience:
    • 8 years of experience in data engineering or related fields, with at least 4 years in a leadership or management role.
    • Strong understanding of data engineering concepts such as ETL pipelines, data lakes, data warehouses, and data modeling.
    • Proven track record of successfully building and scaling data infrastructure in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
    • Experience managing and leading a team of data engineers, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in programming languages and frameworks commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, Java, Scala, SQL.
    • Extensive experience with cloud platforms (specifically AWS) and big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka).
    • Proficiency with Databricks for data engineering and data science needs
    • Proficiency in data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, dbt, or similar).
    • Familiarity with data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth SaaS environment.
    • Experience with DevOps, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and automation tools.
    • Knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies.
