Job Reports To: Chief Financial Officer, CPT, Non-examination Accounting Manager, NASBA

Department: Finance

FLSA Status: Salaried Non-Exempt

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m./37.5 hour work week  Remote flexibility; however, working 2 days per week in the Nashville office is required. You must live in the Middle TN area and not out of state.

Responsibilities

The Senior Staff Accountant, under the direction of Finance management, is responsible for supporting many of the day-to-day activities of the Finance Department. The main role of the Senior Staff Accountant is to perform the underlying duties necessary to close financial periods and support financial reporting and audits of such information. This Senior Staff Accountant will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer, CPT and Non-examination Accounting Manager, NASBA.

Responsibilities

· Record daily cash receipts and refunds.

· Manage invoicing and payments received in the accounts receivable ledger.

· Investigate, respond and record credit card chargebacks.

· Reconcile bank statements to the related general ledger accounts.

· Reconcile general ledger accounts to sub-ledgers and other schedules.

· Prepare monthly reconciliation report for general ledger accounts.

· Maintain schedule of prepaid assets and related expense schedule for CPT.

· Prepare, record and reconcile deferred revenue for NASBA meetings, membership dues, Rules Engine Service and Accountancy Licensing Library.

· Prepare, record and reconcile unbilled receivables for CPT student online training.

· Reconcile and prepare request for payments of State Board fees for licensure application.

· Reconcile and prepare request for payments of royalty fees to CPT online training vendors.

· Record and reconcile investment activities in the general ledger. 

  • Manage fixed asset list in NetSuite. This includes working closely with IT personnel and Facilities Manager to track purchases, disposals, and current location of assets on a consistent basis. Perform depreciation calculations and journal postings in NetSuite.
  • Work with operations personnel to resolve any discrepancies and assure proper account posting of cash receipts and invoicing.
  • Perform multi-state charitable organization reporting.
  • Perform multi-state sales and use tax research and reporting. 
  • Maintain schedule of unrelated business income.
  • Prepare schedules for financial audits.
  • Participate in continuous improvement around processes (e.g., month-end and year-end close) including standardization or other approaches that optimize efficiency while maintaining accuracy.
  • Have an attitude of continual learning and a desire to implement best practices related to accounting.
  • Provide backup and assistance of examination operations, including Gateway, as needed.
  • Perform other special projects and duties as required in support of the Finance team’s activities, and as directed by Manager.
  • Provide a positive customer service experience to stakeholders and promote teamwork within the department.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Internal Relationships: This position interacts closely with members of the Finance department as well as staff in other departments. 

External Relationships: This position communicates with customers and various other entities.

Requirements

• Strong communication skills for interacting with all levels of staff and external stakeholders

• Strong personal computing skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook along with a willingness and ability to learn new software

• Highly self-motivated and directed with strong attention to detail and accuracy

• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks with deadlines

Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment 

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred

• 3 years staff accounting experience

• Experience with NetSuite software or similar software preferred

Work Conditions:

· 37.5-hour work week (overtime as needed)

· Working in downtown Nashville office at least two days per week

· Extended periods of desk work
