Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a key member of the sterile team during various surgical procedures
- Prepare the operating room by opening supplies, performing surgical scrubs, and setting up necessary equipment
- Assist in draping and establishing sterile fields
- Anticipate the surgeon's needs by passing instruments, sutures, and other essential items
- Maintain a sterile environment by adhering to strict aseptic techniques
- Conduct needle and sponge counts in collaboration with the circulating nurse
- Participate in the on-call rotation with other staff members, receiving $4.00/hour on call and a minimum of 2 hours of pay at time and a half if called to work.
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist course
- Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) is preferred at the time of employment, required within 6 months of hire
- At least 2-3 years of acute care hospital-based operating room experience (Ortho, Neuro & General Surgery)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- In-depth knowledge of surgical principles, procedures, and sterile techniques
