Description:
The Career Pathways Coordinator will provide support in implementing, facilitating, maintaining, and evaluating Nashville Zoo’s experiential learning programs; promote the Zoo's mission, goals, and objectives and to provide positive Zoo experiences for visitors, students, staff, and volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serves as primary administrative contact for all experiential learning programs (Paid Internship Program, high school job shadow programs, etc.)
• Works collaboratively with educational institutions and community organizations to promote and recruit for experiential learning programs
• Represents Nashville Zoo at recruitment fairs, intern fairs and other community events
• Supports the promotion, recruitment, interviewing, selection, orientation, training, recognition, appreciation, motivation and retention for all experiential learning programs.
• Coordinates with area supervisors and/or curators with internship needs, placement, schedules, and evaluation.
• Coordinates with Human Relations Department with needs relating to the internship program
• Supports creation and facilitation of digital communication, curriculum, training, and continuing education for student experiences.
• Compiles and maintains internship training materials.
• Assists in continual evaluation and improvement of new and existing experiential learning programs.
• Supports maintenance and upkeep of intern records and hours.
• Arranges schedules and sends out student evaluations for high school experiential learning programs.
• Compiles and maintains statistical data related to experiential learning programs for reporting purposes.
• Supports training Zoo staff how to work with interns and high school students
• Supports operations of Volunteer Programs.
• Assist with education programming as needed.
• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or GED equivalent

Required Skills:

The successful candidate must have:

• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to collaborate effectively with other zoo departments
• Excellent written and oral communication skills to represent the zoo
• Ability to work well independently without direct supervision
• Excellent multitasking and time management ability
• Available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required

Desired Skills:

The following skills and experience are desired and are considered a plus:

• Previous experience as an intern or working with interns
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Volgistics, Paycom and PowerPoint.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to move items up to 25 pounds
• Ability to work outdoors in temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
• Ability to move around zoo grounds for extended periods of time

Employee Requirements:

Prior to hire, the successful candidate must:

• Submit to a criminal background check and drug screen
• Provide proof of a negative TB test as a pre-requisite to handling animals
• Provide proof of a valid driver’s license
