Description

Nassau BOCES is seeking a New York State certified Nurse Assisting teacher to instruct high school students in a career-focused nurse assisting program. This two-year program prepares students for the New York State Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) exam. The teacher will utilize technology to maintain an online presence and enhance the educational experience. Responsibilities include preparing course outlines, detailed lesson plans and providing extensive hands-on instruction to prepare students for careers or further education as Certified Nurse Assistants. Key topics include infection control, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, vital signs, nutrition, growth and development, geriatrics, CPR, First Aid, common health issues and 21st-century healthcare changes. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Manage the classroom environment and ensure that each learner's individual needs are met.
• Evaluate and assess student performance, knowledge and skills as part of record-keeping duties.
• Incorporate nurse assisting skills and processes into both classroom and clinical lessons.
• Supervise students during clinical rotations at hospitals and nursing homes.
• Communicate with local healthcare facilities to arrange clinical experiences for students.
• Maintain inventory of classroom supplies and adhere to reordering procedures.
• Stay informed about industry innovations and job requirements to ensure the curriculum reflects marketable skills required by prospective employers.
  
  

Requirements

• New York State Education Department Certification - Transitional A, Initial or Professional in Nurse Assisting (7-12).
• Valid and current license as a New York State Registered Nurse.
• Candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff, administration and parents.
• Five or more years of practical experience in long term care facilities, hospital, or health care facility, or a certified nurse assisting teacher with at least three years of teaching experience.
  
  

SALARY: As per labor contract.
