ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

Founded in 1908, the National Governors Association is the bipartisan organization of Governors from the 55 states, territories and commonwealths. NGA’s mission is to share best practices, address issues of national and state interest, and drive innovative solutions that improve state government and support the principles of federalism.

NGA’s Center for Best Practices is the policy and research arm that helps Governors develop and implement solutions to public policy challenges. NGA’s Government Relations group assists in ensuring the voice of Governors are heard in Congress, and the Executive Branch and NGA’s Communications team collaborates with Governors’ offices to amplify bipartisan messaging and strategy.

Throughout the year, NGA convenes Governors and senior advisors for meaningful discourse, problem-solving and thought leadership.

Key Responsibilities Of The Information Technology (it) Manager

The Information Technology (IT) Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring the technology infrastructure is aligned with organizational goals, improving workflows, and driving operational efficiency. Working under the Director, Administration, the IT Manager will manage all technology systems within the organization. This role will involve oversight of IT operations, including network infrastructure, hardware and software management, security measures, and vendor relations. The IT Manager will also lead staff training and ensure that technology systems support the needs of the organization. The IT Manager is an onsite essential position and will be expected to be full-time onsite in Washington, DC.

Other important responsibilities of the IT Manager include:

  • Oversee all IT systems, including hardware, software, mobile devices, printers, and audio-visual equipment to ensure they run effectively and efficiently;
  • Research, recommend, and acquire new hardware and software, ensuring these tools meet organizational needs and support operational efficiency;
  • Support server and system performance monitoring, ensuring restoration and maintenance activities are executed promptly;
  • Ensure the organization’s network infrastructure meets demand and operational workflows remain efficient;
  • Lead IT projects, including system upgrades, software implementations, and IT system installations;
  • Maintain and enhance network security measures, including monitoring for phishing scams, encryption protocols, and protecting member and stakeholder data;
  • Prepare monthly reports highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) related to ongoing projects and system performance;
  • Educate staff on network security procedures, best practices, and appropriate technology usage, ensuring compliance with internal security policies;
  • Communicate technology issues and solutions to staff, ensuring all team members are informed about changes that may impact their work;
  • Provide responsive and timely technology support, addressing and resolving issues as necessary;
  • Continuously evaluate and improve IT processes, systems, and workflows to drive efficiency and productivity across the organization;
  • In conjunction with Director of Administration manage the IT department's budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently.
  • Manage relationships with external contractors and vendors;
  • Other duties as assigned by Director, Administration.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree preferable in Information Technology or related field. Five plus years of experience in supporting the IT needs of organizations to include customer service, risk management and inventory control. Experience working with working Governors, working in federal or state agencies or non-profit organizations is preferred.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to:

  • Manage Office 365, Active Directory, and other Windows-based systems through inventory, manage (move add change requests) per employee account;
  • Strong knowledge of IT systems, including relational databases, network infrastructure, and association management systems;
  • Support server and systems performance monitoring for restoration and maintenance;
  • Support implementing, configuring, and testing solutions of new and updated products and systems;
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex IT projects and the ability to conceptualize, plan, and execute projects impacting the entire organization;
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups, including vendors, senior management, and staff at all levels;
  • Have knowledge in web tools, predominantly managing Zoom accounts and troubleshooting virtual meetings through this platform;
  • Possess analytical skills to identify appropriate technology solutions to address strategic and tactical business challenges and ability to identify inefficient work processes and apply technology to streamline and improve processes;
  • Document support procedures to include the creation and maintenance of division standard of procedures and end-user documentations;
  • Having working knowledge and understanding of relevant hardware and software;
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues with other Windows based systems;
  • Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Have flexibility to work potential evenings and weekends; and
  • Demonstrating a commitment to NGA’s mission and goals to constructively serve the needs of all Governors.
  • Travel, as necessary.

Compensation

Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000 annually. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of the lowest to the highest salary for this position. The final salary offered will be based on qualifications and experience.
