What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Operations Inspector B position at National Grid?
Job Purpose
Under general supervision, in Programs/Leak Survey Department, to develop knowledge of, and become familiar with, all types of gas mains and services, to acquire the ability in promoting public safety with the gas infrastructure.
Key Accountabilities
- Perform mandated leakage patrol surveys, including investigation, recording readings utilizing FIU, CGI
- Maintain and calibrate leak detection equipment as necessary.
- Report all incorrect or unusual conditions observed in field including gas meter piping for atmospheric corrosion.
- Maintain required operator qualifications for position.
- May be assigned to post company notices as needed.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Walk approximately 5-10 miles per day.
- Requires kneeling and bending throughout the workday.
- Work independently and work in all types of weather (rain, sleet, snow, hot, cold, etc.)
- Must be able to lift or carry heavy equipment (e.g., tool bag, tools, cellar doors etc.)
- Prepare all necessary reports and participate in required surveys.
- Ability to drive a company car/ van or truck daily.
- Membership is required in Local Union 101 TWU.
- Collaborate with other departments.
- Interacting with customers and property owners
Qualifications
- Must have at minimum a High School Diploma or GED
- Candidates should possess very good interpersonal and communication skills, a positive attitude and be motivated and dependable while representing the company.
- Valid state driver license
- Ability and willingness to work all shifts/scheduled including holidays, nights, weekends, and overtime as required/necessary.
- Ability to read and understand maps/service records.
- Three (3) Years field and leak investigation experience preferred.

Pay Rate: $44.74 per hour

As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
