Description of Work
- Perform all healthcare services admission requirements per policy and procedure, including venipuncture, vaccine administration, TST placement, intake assessment, admission labs, and form/documentation completion.
- Verify the juveniles' medication upon entering the facility, assessing its validity and necessity (i.e., contacting a prescribing healthcare provider and pharmacist). Address and resolve issues with prescribed medications, including contacting prescribing providers and communicating with parents/guardians and Juvenile Court Counselors.
- Manage clinics for primary care and psychiatric care, including scheduling clinic times, provider order transcription, medication order processing, managing clinic flow, creating a schedule for appointments, and communicating with facility staff.
- Process medication inventory and deliveries from contractual pharmacy vendors, including reconciliation with provider orders and inventory delivered specifically to each juvenile prescribed medication.
- Prepare and administer medication as prescribed by a practitioner licensed in NC to administer or prescribe drugs during their professional practice and monitor/audit UAPs trained to administer medication.
- Administer and delegate administration of non-prescribed medications per provider orders.
- Be available for telephone consultation and emergency consultation at other times as determined supervisors.
- Keep required records related to the health of the juveniles, documenting all services, treatments, and medications rendered or coordinated.
- Provide counseling for medical illnesses, treatments, preventive care, hygiene, HIV, and STDs for juveniles.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings focused on care management for the juveniles within the facility.
- Notify the juvenile's parents/guardians and the responsible agency in case of serious illness, surgery, injury, or death. Coordinate this with the facility nurse supervisor and clinical director.
- When performing tests on juveniles, follow CLIA regulations for waived tests. A copy of tests granted waived status under CLIA is in the medical clinic at the facility. Assure competency in screening skills.
- Data collection is required on controlled substances, health care statistics, juvenile medical care expenses, and others deemed necessary by the Director of Juvenile Justice Health Services.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Active/Clear Licensure by the NC State Board of Nursing
- Minimum 1-year experience
- Direct care experience within the previous year
- Active/Clear BLS (American Heart Association)
- Successful completion of screening/application requirements (e.g., competency testing, drug screening, background check)
