National Maintenance & Repair, Inc. is interviewing for Painters/Blasters with opportunity for growth!
The Painters/Blasters are responsible for the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally compliant operation of assigned area.
Primary functions of Painters/Blasters include, but not limited to:
- Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment: Shovels or pours abrasives, such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
- Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.
- Loads parts on racks in enclosed rooms, into tumbling barrels, or into cabinets.
- Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.
- Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surface of parts.
- Manually directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval.
- Examines finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Prepares wood, fiberglass, and metal surfaces for painting, and paints parts, equipment, interiors, and exteriors of ships, boats, and shipyard and marina buildings, using brushes, spray guns, and rollers:
- Mixes solvents according to formula and immerses parts in solution or washes surfaces to remove grease, rust, scale, and dirt.
- Burns off old paint, using blowtorch.
- Smooths wooden and plaster surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, and sanding machines.
- Fills cracks and holes with patching plaster, putty, or plastic wood.
- Washes and treats surfaces with oil, turpentine, and other preparations.
- Brushes and rubs filler material into grained wood to prepare surfaces for painting.
- Mixes and matches colors of paint, varnish, stain, shellac, and calcimine.
- Operates spray painting equipment or brushes or rolls paint on surfaces.
- Sands surfaces between coats and polishes final coat to specified finish.
- Sprays or brushes hot plastics or pitch on surfaces.
- Bakes finishes on painted and enameled articles in baking oven.
Other key job responsibilities of Painters/Blasters include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Perform maintenance to include cleaning, scraping, painting, changing all oil and filter.
2. Inspect, correct if possible, and notify the Section Head of any conditions, which will affect the safety of the vehicle or equipment.
3. Painters/Blasters assist with the training of newly hired employees.
4. Work a schedule involving 8 hours and be able to occasionally work additional hours not to exceed twelve consecutive hours without rest.
5. Work a schedule of 5 days on 2 days off, or additional days as needed.
6. Perform all duties while wearing protective equipment to include PVC blast suit, foul weather gear, life jacket, gloves, respirator, and boots.
7. Adhere to and comply with company policies and environmental regulations.
