What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Engineer position at Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR)?
**Position Description**
- Interact with multiple technical project offices (TPO) for Navy weapon systems, and provide technical recommendations for multiple materials (metals, polymers, composites, ceramics, high temperature) or material-related issues (manufacturing, corrosion, replacement materials, failures, inspections, drawing callouts, etc) as needed.
- Interact with other customers on- and off- base, and provide technical recommendations for multiple materials or material-related issues as needed.
- Participate in TPO level Configuration Control Boards (CCB), Engineering Review Boards (ERB) and other meetings as needed.
- Provide mentoring to junior branch personnel, via weekly mentoring sessions.
- Coordinate with branch head and other senior branch personnel on program issues/concerns, technical/professional development of junior branch personnel, lab requirements (new equipment, training, maintenance, calibration, etc) as needed.
- Perform lab testing (mechanical testing, failure analysis, etc) as needed to support TPOs, other customers and branch personnel.
- Assist junior branch personnel with issues/concerns related to their customers and projects.
- Work towards certification in multiple Standard Skills Packages (SSP) and Standard Work Packages (SWP)
- Work towards empowerment as subject matter expert (SME) for Navy flight clearance process.
