Nature of Work
Peru State College seeks qualified applicants for the position of Academic Advisor. We are looking for a professional, positive, student-focused Academic Advisor to guide and support online and on-campus undergraduate students in the School of Professional Studies (SPS). The Academic Advisor is central to student success in the school’s academic disciplines of Business Administration, Criminal Justice, and Psychology. Working closely with SPS faculty and the dean, the Academic Advisor will help students navigate their academic journey to align with their personal and professional goals.
The Academic Advisor provides individualized guidance to students on topics such as choice of major, class schedule, program progression, credit hours, satisfactory academic progress, academic probation or suspension, and academic policies. As a primary point of contact for students, the Advisor is a liaison to campus offices such as admissions, financial aid, and student records, as well as the many Peru State College services that support student success. In collaboration with other PSC academic advisors and colleagues, the successful candidate will participate in new student orientation sessions and help facilitate student registration.
A vital team member in the School of Professional Studies, the Academic Advisor assists with school or college projects that could include but are not limited to assessment, marketing, programming, and strategic planning.
This position is exempt with regard to FLSA overtime provisions. This position is covered by the NSCPA bargaining unit.

Examples of Work Performed
Essential Duties:
1. Assist all students with enrollment and financial aid services
2. Serves as primary point of contact for student issues related to enrollment and financial aid
3. Provide academic guidance for all students upon request, including pre-Admissions
4. Advise financial aid and academic probation/suspension students on structured course scheduling
5. Serve as assigned academic advisor for majors as needed
6. Assist students with academic changes and communication and/or dissemination of information to appropriate college offices
7. Perform Distance Education related to dual credit, early entry, on campus and online Canvas course creation and maintenance in areas of enrollment, course activation, orientation and other related areas.
Secondary Duties:
1. Assist with assessment and evaluation requirements
2. Collaborate with departments regarding enrollment and financial aid services/activities
3. Collaborate with departments/faculty regarding changes/updates made to published programs and plans, etc.
4. Performs visits to corporations, community colleges, and high schools as needed
5. Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred. Experience working in higher education academic advising is beneficial. Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in computer applications are strongly desired. Knowledge of Canvas or other Learning Management Systems is also preferred, and an understanding of technology.
