Position Overview:
Nelson University seeks a dynamic full-time faculty member to join our Department of Health Sciences within the College of Business & Education. As a founding-stage position, this role offers a unique opportunity to serve as department chair and develop and shape our emerging health sciences programs, including potential nursing and allied health initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a passion for health sciences education, program development, and student mentorship within our faith-based academic environment.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Kinesiology, Public Health, Biology, Physiology, Medical Sciences, or a related health sciences field from an accredited institution.
- Professional licensure or certification (such as RN, PT, ATC, or other relevant credentials) is preferred.
- 3-5 years of industry or teaching experience in a healthcare, allied health, or related field preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to student success.
- Commitment to incorporating a biblical perspective into health sciences instruction within a faith-based educational environment.
Core Responsibilities:
Teaching and Academic Leadership
Teaching and Academic Leadership
- Deliver a 4/4 or 4/3 course load (24 or 21 credit hours per year) in health sciences-related courses. Department chair appointment includes one course release per academic year.
- Develop and implement course syllabi integrating health sciences and faith-based perspectives.
- Maintain 10 regular office hours per week to support student learning (in-person and online).
Program Development
- Develop and shape curriculum for health sciences programs, including nursing, kinesiology, and allied health fields.
- Support accreditation and assessment initiatives as needed.
- Serve as department chair, guiding faculty recruitment and academic program growth.
University Service
- Participate in departmental and university-wide committees (2-3 per academic year).
- Attend university events, faculty meetings, and chapel services (three times weekly).
- Complete New Faculty Orientation.
- Participate in Faculty Inservice each semester.
- Stay current in health sciences trends, licensure requirements, and industry best practices.
Start Date & Hiring Timeline
- Anticipated Start Date: August 2025
- Hiring Decisions Finalized By: April 2025
- Academic Calendar: 12-month contract (August–July).
Faculty Rank & Compensation
- Available Ranks: Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor.

- Contract Structure: Annual renewable contracts, subject to performance review by the Dean and Vice President for Academics.
