What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Manager position at New England Center for Children Inc?
The NECC Health Services Department provides primary healthcare, addressing health maintenance, care of acute and chronic health problems, and coordination of specialty services. Services are provided on a 24-hour per day basis through direct nursing coverage and/or medical on-call system.
The Nurse Manager provides oversight of the medical and clinical operations of the residential programs as well as provides direct nursing care to residential students. Assures appropriate utilization of medical resources necessary for the delivery of quality medical care.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm or 8:00am-4:00pm
General Responsibilities:
- Manages staff performance. In conjunction with the Director of Health Services, conducts routine performance reviews and implements training and coaching when necessary
- Provides supervision to nursing staff and maintains department staff schedules
- Manages time sheets
- Assigns daily nursing coverage
- Assists in the hiring of staff for the department.
- Serves as a point person for DESE/EEC audits
- Manages and implements the Vaccine for Children program requirements
- Point of Contact for Pharmacy Management:
- Implements and manages scheduling of Nutrition Clinic.
- Assists in the coverage of other nurse’s sick and vacation time, including Residential, Day Services, and Adult Services
- Participating in rotating on-call coverage (6 weeks/year). Beeper rotation will include holidays equally divided among primary care nurses.
- Serves as a medical liaison between behavioral staff and parents.
- Able to expertly discuss health issues with parents.
- Works collaboratively with Behavioral, Administrative and Executive Staff.
- Develops and implements Health Services trainings for new direct care staff, NECC policies and procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, etc.
- Develops new nurse orientation and supervises new nurse orientation to Health Services Department.
Qualifications:
- Licensing Requirements: Registered Nurse (RN), duly licensed to practice in Massachusetts.
- Certifications: Basic CPR certification of Adults, Children and Infants (ARC or AHA) Instructor CPR Certification from American Red Cross for Community CPR, AED and First Aid (may obtain after hire date)
- Experience: Two or more years of nursing experience, a plus if you have health service education
