NEW ENGLAND CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC is Hiring a Director Of Human Resources Near Boston, MA

NEC pushes the boundaries of making and teaching music through college-level musical training in classical, jazz, and Contemporary Improvisation. It offers unique interdisciplinary programs such as Entrepreneurial Musicianship and Community Performances & Partnerships that empower students to create their own musical opportunities. JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Human Resources provides leadership in the areas of talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, training and development, regulatory compliance, and human resource information systems and records management. This position reports to the Vice President for Finance and Administration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Consulting with, advising, and training managers, supervisors, and staff on personnel matters.

Assisting in the development of personnel policies, procedures, and programs:

Keeping current on changes to personnel related laws and regulations

Ensuring timely planning and implementation of processes and procedures 

Coordinating and implementing development and training programs.

Supervising recruitment, hiring, and employment processes; working collaboratively with staff and faculty in recruitment, hiring, and retention processes.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and the NEC community.

Serves as an advocate for employees by listening and becoming aware of employee needs and concerns, sharing this information with leadership, researching best practices, and offering options for leaders to consider in addressing employee needs and concerns. 

Ensures consistent and equitable application of human resource policies, procedures, and regulations through advise, trainings, and enforcement of personnel policies and procedures.

Advises employees and supervisors regarding performance and disciplinary issues, administers progressive discipline and grievance procedures consistently, listens to employee and supervisor concerns, conducts investigations as needed, and recommends a plan of action.

Manages funds by planning, developing ,and controlling the departmental budget.

Oversees the annual benefits renewal processes, working with external consultants, as necessary, to identify plan options that effectively serve employee needs while managing overall costs. 

Ensures compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.

Master's degree in Human Resources, or equivalent, preferred.

10-12 years of human resources leadership experience as a manager or supervisor.

Excellent listening and interpersonal skills, and ability to relate to internal and external colleagues and constituents.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

High level of attention to detail.

Strong computer skills required; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, experience with ADP.

Knowledge of Human Resources management practices and procedures; human relations and dynamics; principles of negotiations; employee development techniques; supervision and training; management information services related to personnel; laws pertaining to employment in public education; budget management and planning for a human resources office.

Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of others; analyze situations accurately, identify appropriate solutions, and take action; develop and maintain credibility with employees; develop and maintain a strong service orientation; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with staff, faculty and managers; ability to develop and implement programs and procedure.
