Position Summary:
The position is responsible for the repair of the Township’s infrastructure, including roads, facilities, and parks. This position involves operating various heavy equipment, performing manual labor, and executing a range of maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, experience in equipment operation, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and functionality of public properties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily manual labor and maintenance on Township facilities, parks, roads, roadside drainage swales, culverts, pipes, and other public properties to ensure optimal condition and functionality.
- Operate various heavy equipment, including dump trucks (with or without a plow and cinder spreader), backhoes, road graders, road mowers, and numerous hand and power tools (e.g., shovels, rakes, picks, jackhammers, chainsaws, string trimmers, whackers, lawn mowers).
- Execute snow plowing and apply salt and anti-skid materials on Township roads, facilities, and other public areas. Conduct winter maintenance to ensure safety and accessibility.
- Perform various street maintenance and repair tasks, including filling potholes with cold patch, preparing road base, resurfacing streets with asphalt, raking stone and asphalt, adjusting manhole covers, and repairing storm inlets.
- Conduct routine maintenance on Township vehicles and equipment, including washing, cleaning, oil changes, lubrication, minor repairs, and loading/unloading materials and tools.
- Cut, trim, and remove grass, brush, trees, branches, and vegetation using hand and power tools. Paint street signs, crosswalks, and other road markings. Maintain and repair street signs, guiderails, and remove debris from road intersections and shoulders.
- Assist in the repair and construction of Township buildings and structures, including providing electrical, plumbing, and carpentry assistance as needed.
- Respond to highway emergencies by removing road hazards such as fallen trees, snow, ice, spills, and damaged road signs. Utilize radio dispatch communications effectively.
- Perform related work as required and other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.36 - $24.03 per hour
