Our excellent reputation reflects over 30 years of experience in meeting the needs of the communities we serve. We are seeking a full-time bus driver for our Senior Center in Hewlett, NY.
Senior Center in Hewlett, NY seeks an experienced and properly licensed full time Driver of a 22 passenger, handicapped accessible bus.
Qualifications:
· Valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement
· No record of suspensions
· Ability to communicate and understand the needs of senior participants
· Physically able to provide assistance to participants entering and exiting the vehicle when needed
· Must take a defensive driving course every 3 years and submit verification
· Ability to interpret a map, GPS and written directions as needed
· Experience transporting and working with seniors and/or individuals with special needs are an asset
· Bilingual Spanish speaking is an asset
Job Description:
· Transport participants to and from the Senior Center from their private residences
· Work with program leadership to develop a pick up and drop off route that will minimize travel and wait times.
· Provide safe transportation by adhering to all motor vehicle safety rules and exercising proper driving judgment
· Ensuring that all vehicle occupants are checked and assisted so that seat belts are utilized all of the time
· Assist participants on and off of the program vehicle when needed
· Maintain transportation lists and contact Senior Center participants when needed to ensure that transportation is provided when needed
· Daily equipment check of program vehicle at the start and end of each day
· Ensure that proper levels of fuel, oils, fluids and tire pressure are maintained on a daily basis and additions recorded in a log book
· Maintain a daily mileage log
· Maintain program vehicle, immediately informing the Program Director of any routine, necessary and emergency maintenance or safety needs to ensure safe and optimal operation
· Keep records of vehicle repairs
· Keep the interior and exterior of the program vehicle clean
· While at the program, the driver may be asked to assist with meals, set up, clean up and errands

Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
