Reports To: Elementary School Principal
Supervises: Certified and non-certified personnel servicing under the direction of the school principal
Terms of Employment: Twelve-month administrative position. Other terms as set
by the Board of Education in accordance with the New London Administrators’ Education Association contract.
Primary Function: This position is an integral pillar of the elementary school community. This position supports the school Principal and assists with all aspects of leading and operating an elementary school.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

- Works under the Principal to administer and supervise the school in accordance with the policies and regulations established by the Board of Education.
- Works with the school administration and district staff to administer and direct the Magnet School Operations plan, if applicable.
- Assists the Principal with improving the school’s total educational program in accordance with student needs and within the framework of established policies for the school district.
- Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to personalized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with special needs.
- Applies in-depth knowledge of SRBI to ensure appropriate interventions within curricula.
- Assists in the development and establishing of the school goals and objectives and the planning of the school’s instructional and magnet programs.
- Supports the creative programming, development, and marketing of the district’s multi-themed Magnet Pathways.
- Assists in coordinating the work of school staff to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.
- Assists with the preparation of class schedules, master schedules, and extracurricular activities.
- Responsible for upholding the student code of conduct by managing student discipline.
- Ensures all disciplinary records are maintained and logged regularly.
- Assists to define and disseminate information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, staff and community.
- Ensures that student conduct and attendance conform with the school's standards and school district policies. Assists with the development and daily implementation of the school’s School Improvement Plan and any other school-based plans.
- Supervises activities of the school’s certified and non-certified staff members in the performance of their duties and in the improvement of their performance.
- Evaluates certified and non-certified staff under the direction of the Principal.
- Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.
- Provides leadership and direction to staff about the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extracurricular activities.
- Participates in the recruitment, selection, and recommendation of the school’s certified and non-certified staff and in the advancement, transfer, demotion, or severance of these personnel.
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee information, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.
- Aids in the supervision of support services at the individual school level, such as facility maintenance; security; food services; transportation; extracurricular activities; student, staff, and inventory accounting; library activities; and technology and equipment.
- Contributes to the development of district-wide policies.
- Works under the Principal to prepare the school’s budgetary requests and administers the allocations.
- Assists in the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies.
- Develops a program of public relations that furthers the community’s understanding and support of the total school educational program.
- Consults and works with appropriate central office administrators and staff with respect to the school’s personnel; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; student support services; supplies; equipment; magnet programming; and the school facility.
- Inspires and empowers teachers, students, parents, and communities.
- Holds a strong commitment to team collaboration through Professional Learning Communities.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting action-based research.
- Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Title IX leadership in collaboration with the Principal.
- Adheres to the Connecticut School Leadership Standards.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent/Designee or School Principal.
Required Qualifications;
- Connecticut Intermediate Administration/Supervision Certification (092)
- Possess a valid Teaching Certificate, preferably in the arts
- At least 5 years of successful experience as a classroom teacher
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English & Spanish)
- Sixth year, doctorate, or another planned program in educational leadership, ELL, or special education
- Knowledge of magnet school program development and implementation
- Knowledge of inquiry-based teaching and learning
- Knowledge of Arts themes and educational programming
- Demonstrated leadership abilities in an ethnically diverse community
- Experience in supervising building-level Special Education and English Learners programs and services
Performance Evaluation: Annually by the School Principal or designee
