The Office of Oral Health's (OOH) is a Public Health Program within the Population and Community Health Bureau (PCHB) of the New Mexico Department of Health. Why does the job exist?
The director shall provide leadership to and oversight of staff of the Population and Community Health Bureau, Office of Oral Health (OOH). The goal of the OOH is to reduce the incidence of oral disease among children and adults in the State of New Mexico. The OOH program consists of conducting clinical oral health prevention programs, mobile school-based prevention program, provides funds to contractors to increase access to oral health services by low income and uninsured children and adults, promoting oral health throughout the state, promoting Community Water Fluoridation, and serving as a clearing house for oral health issues. The purpose of this position is to provide program development, management and evaluation, budget oversight, supervision, contract monitoring and surveillance of the State of New Mexico Office of Oral Health. The OOH Director directly oversees positions, including but not limited to: Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants and Dental Case Managers.
How does it get done?
The Office of Oral Health (OOH) Director will work to ensure the services provided fall in line with the departments Strategic Plan to promote health and wellness, improve health outcomes, and assure safety net services for all people in New Mexico. This position will work in developing and overseeing a complex budget with multiple funding sources to support the human and other resources, including contracts, required to achieve OOH's strategic goals; along with interpreting and adhering to federal and state funding requirements, including procurement codes. This position will also work in directing, supporting, mentoring, and developing staff, including addressing the variety of issues that may affect staffs' ability to function in their job.

Health systems, community organizations, the general public and populations at risk for tooth decay and other related diseases.
Ideal Candidate
- A licensed dental health care professional, 2.) at least six (6) years of experience in a health-related field (Dental / Oral Health preferred), 3.) at least three (3) years of experience managing a public health or health services program and 4.) at least three (3) years of experience managing budgets and/or contractual instruments.
Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. A current Dental Health Care Professional License.
In accordance with Chapter 107 Section 13 Laws 2019, this position shall be filled as stated DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH OFFICE OF ORAL HEALTHDIRECTOR. The secretary shall appoint a director of the department's office of oral health, who shall be a dental health care professional licensed pursuant to the Dental Health Care Act.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. In-state and out-of state travel is required. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
