Newberry College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty teaching position as Assistant Professor of Music/Director of Bands for the Department of Music beginning in August 2025. This is a full-time 10-month faculty position. The qualified candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses including Basic or Advanced Conducting as well as conduct the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. The successful candidate will also teach additional courses based on their qualifications (music education, applied lessons, ear training, instrumental methods, etc.}. The candidate will work collaboratively with the Athletic Band Director to plan, administer, and assist with the Scarlet Spirit Marching Band. Candidates with three to five years of K-12 teaching experience are preferred.
In addition to teaching courses through our team environment in the music program of Newberry College, a tenure-track candidate will be responsible for professional service, scholarly productivity, recruitment and retention initiatives, and advisement for education majors. Qualifications
An earned D.M.A. or Ph.D. in Conducting, Music Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution (ABD considered with completion date prior to August 2025). Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Demonstrated evidence of conducting collegiate or professional level band repertoire.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching and mentoring students majoring in Music Education. Demonstrated experience of successful recruitment of new students from a variety of sources. Membership and leadership in appropriate professional organizations.
