What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Assistant position at NewTV?
NewTV, an Emmy-award winning non-profit community media center located in Newton, MA, is seeking a versatile and motivated production assistant to support its community, governmental and educational programming efforts. NewTV operates cable and streaming channels that provide community-focused programming and news. The production assistant will recruit and train community members, assist with their productions, and provide overall production support for ongoing coverage of governmental, educational and news events.
Job Duties
- Partner with existing NewTV team members in providing support to NewTV’s diverse membership
- Help facilitate all aspects of public, education and government (PEG) related productions
- Create and teach production classes to attendees who possess varying skill levels
- Manage recruitment drives and outreach events to attract new members
- Capture a variety of community, government, and news events using professional field equipment; set up, operate, and break down cameras, cables, lights, and microphones as needed.
- Independently record and broadcast live municipal meetings using television video switchers, remote cameras and Zoom.
- Assist with additional field and studio productions as needed and be proficient with post-production.
Skills and Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Previous experience in television or media, including studio, field, and post-production
- College degree in broadcast media, communications, or related field
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Must be able to problem solve quickly and work well under deadline pressure
- Must possess a good attitude, be willing to learn, and be a team player
- Knowledge of software applications including Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Adobe Creative Premiere
- Knowledge of video file types, edit share, codecs, and compression standards
- Knowledge of Zoom, Slack, social media, AI, Isaac, and TelVue is beneficial
- Experience in community media and familiarity with NewTV a plus
- Ability to work with diverse constituencies from all age ranges, backgrounds, perspectives, and identities.
This is a Full Time salaried position. Salary range is $42k-45k and includes: healthcare (75%/25%), dental (100%), life insurance, 401k with company match.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
