Job Description
Under the supervision of the Upper School Director, the Upper School English Teacher will provide a welcoming and encouraging environment for all students to explore and understand concepts in English using critical thinking, close reading, and a variety of writing styles. He or she will aid students in the understanding of texts, the signifi cance of thematic concepts, and the importance of the written word. He or she will facilitate understanding and competencies within the core of each assigned English grade level.
This position will teach the following classes: English 11, Honors English 11, AP Language and Composition, Dual Enrollment English
Qualifications
- A personal faith in Christ lived out in Christian character and worldview
- Master’s degree in English from an accredited college or university
- Must have or be eligible for a teaching license from VDOE
Contract Details
- Contracted by the Head of School upon recommendation of the school administrator for one year.
- Responsible to School Directors
- Supervise Students and Volunteers
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and translate lesson plans into learning opportunities
- Integrate a Biblical worldview into classroom teaching
- Integrate technology into subject area
- Instruct students in their specialization subject area
- Differentiate teaching materials to guide and challenge students at all levels
- Assess and evaluate students’ competencies in the subject area
- Maintain appropriate records and progress of students
- Communicate effectively with students and parents
- Maintain standards of student behavior and supervise students
- Maintain professional competence through professional development
- Participate in curriculum development, faculty meetings and student sponsorship as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned or required
