Position Scope
The Heavy Equipment Operator will load and unload materials and deliver to, from and within mine site as required. The trucks are 100ton and end-dump trucks. Larger equipment is also possible.

Responsibilities
- Operate heavy earth-moving equipment such as dozers, excavators, loaders, mining trucks, scrapers, etc. in all aspects of mining.
- Perform proper equipment startup and shut down procedures along with daily servicing of equipment.
- Operate within acceptable range of all gauges on instrumentation panel.
- Perform all job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety policies, along with state and federal environmental regulations in a safe manner consistent with San Miguel Lignite Mine standards.
- Practice defensive driving and operating at all times.
- Work with other equipment operators in a safe and organized manner.
- Assist in water management activities, reclamation, load/haul, construction, and maintenance activities, as necessary.
- Perform utility work and operate utility equipment.
- Assist maintenance department with routine repairs.
- Keep supervisor informed of any potential problems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years’ experience operating heavy off-road construction equipment preferred.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, night shifts, and weekends.
- Prior heavy equipment operation experience preferred
- Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
- Have a valid Driver’s License
- Must understand basic mechanical workings of heavy equipment to prevent damage.
- Operate equipment properly within tolerances as well as perform preventative maintenance and servicing on occasion.
- Must have the ability to work with GPS units in the equipment.
- Having the knowledge and ability to respond to emergencies and unpredictable situations.
- Ability to recognize unsafe & adverse conditions and the knowledge to correct them.

Overview
This position is located a the San Miguel Mine (Christine Texas).
The San Miguel Mine is a large-scale lignite mining operation that provides coal to the San Miguel Electric Cooperative power plant. Utilizing two large draglines and a variety of heavy equipment, the mine is capable of providing approximately 1.8 million tons of lignite each year, which helps power more than 78,000 homes in 42 counties.
