Director of Healthcare LVN
Northbound Treatment Network is a nationally recognized residential addiction and mental health treatment program for adults. Accredited by The Joint Commission, Northbound meets the highest quality standards for behavioral health and client care.
Northbound is looking for an experienced Director of Health Care (LVN) to provide program leadership. The ideal candidate has excellent communication and documentation abilities and 2-5 years of experience in Detox, Addiction, Substance Use Disorder Treatment, and Mental Health treatment.
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the health care needs of Northbound Treatment Network clients. This person manages the Health Care staff in all programs and levels of care. Responsibilities include communication of policy and procedure and acting as a liaison between the unit and the clinical team and other departments. This Director contributes to the planning and implementation of their ideas and concerns with the purpose of resolution and guidance, productivity within the work environment and maintenance of regulatory requirements (state licensing and certification) and accreditation standards (medication management and infection control) of all facilities and levels of care.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Nurse Manager:
- Manages the Health Care staff
- Provides leadership, training, and ongoing support for staff and clients
- Addresses issues that require alteration or redirection and assist in Health Care staff remediation
- Maintains audits of client files, including medications, and database entry
- Leads staff educational and training meetings and evaluates specific training and education needs of personnel
- Encourages and develops teamwork within the workplace, assigns and delegates duties
- Analyzes and evaluates staff training and staffing needs
- Collaborates with Program Director, Medical Director and other health care providers concerning the provision of quality client care
Client Care:
- Develops and implements in-service programs
- Oversees the Healthcare Intake, assessment, and short term treatment planning process upon admission of a client into Programs
- Communicates with the collaborating providers and ensures follow through on all orders per client assessment and needs
- Manages client detoxification progress and responds to concerns promptly
- Oversees evaluation of clients upon admission and thereafter for signs and symptoms of detoxification withdrawal and medication side effects
- Manages documentation assuring that all health care notes are documented within a 24 hour period
- Works with the pharmacy and Northbound finance department to assure that all client medications are processed and sourced correctly and promptly
- Manages client transfers and Discharge process upon a client’s discharge from Northbound Detox Program
- Utilizes referrals in the community to outsource residents as needed
- Peer review and audit resident charts and documentation
Regulation/Compliance:
- Assures that all State regulations and accreditation standards are met related to health care related services
- Ensures accurate transcription of medication orders to the medication observation record and the provision of non-medical services
- Follows and ensures the following of all policies and procedures including, but not limited to, medication management, self-administration of medication, and infection control
- Manages laboratory orders and assures that all clients receive laboratory services when necessary
- Assists in planning and developing detoxification operational, clinical, and other health care related policies and procedures, and strategic planning as needed
Resident Rights:
- Safeguards clients’ property
- Assures and assists to maintain safe, pleasant, orderly client living areas and resident rights
- Provides clients with opportunities for independence and choice consistent with their care plans
- Maintains clients’ self-esteem, privacy and confidentiality of personal information
- Must be available to answer nurse’s patient related phone calls, and ensure the quality of client care in the Detox program.
Day to Day Program Operations:
- Educates staff on program policies and procedures
- Coordinates client treatment programs, discharge reviews, and attendance
- Evaluates staff concerns
- Produces and distributes staff training manual, annual rotation schedule and monthly changes, and ensures completion of staff evaluations
- Assists with quality improvement implementations and planning
- Organizes scheduling, staff evaluations and administration of staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge - Basic ability to communicate and comprehend; ability to measure and comprehend certain quantities; knowledge of basic nursing skills; knowledge and familiarity with the therapeutic effects and side effects of all medications administered; graduate of an accredited school of nursing or related field
Basic Abilities - Ability to meet the physical and mental abilities of the job as outlined in the Job Description; must be able to speak read and write in English and be able to articulate clearly and audibly; ability to meet conditions of employment applicable to the center/campus.
Prior Experience - Prior work experience in like or related position is required
Management Experience – preferably in health care staff management and/or detox management
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current CA LVN or RN preferred
Current CPR & First Aid certification
Valid California Class C Driver’s License
Previous experience in chemical dependency treatment environment required
