What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Solutions Geri Psych - Full Time position at NORTHEASTERN HEALTH SYSTEM?
Position Summary
Provides professional nursing care for assigned patients in geri-psych unit according to established procedures. Manages/acts within the therapeutic milieu and directs the delivery of nursing care by other members of the nursing treatment team.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Documents initial nursing histories, assesses patients’ conditions and develops individual care plans for patients assigned to the unit.
Oversees the delivery of patient care for a group of patients; directs and delegates patient care assignments to nursing staff working on the floor, based on acuteness of patient care needs and staff availability.
Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
Assists providers with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
Demonstrates sensitivity to patient’s comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
Observes emotional stability of patients, expresses interest in their progress and prepares for continuing care after discharge.
Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient’s medical treatment.
Responds to code calls and directs codes when no physician is available.
Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines.
Provides health care instruction to patient and family members.
Establishes and maintains communication between the nursing unit and ancillary department for the purpose of problem solving. Utilizes appropriate lines of communication within the nursing department.
Attends conferences with nursing staff regarding patient’s psychological condition and needs and helps to identify appropriate behaviors on the part of nursing staff to meet those needs. Researches all available options and makes appropriate recommendations.
Provides direct services to psychiatric patients in the absence of regularly scheduled counseling personnel.
Acts as liaison between nursing and physician staff. Uses appropriate counseling techniques and records interactions accurately.
Implements crisis intervention measures when indicated, including behavioral and group counseling, suicide and escape precautions, and controlling aggressive behavior. Effectively identifies predictable problems and plans and provides patient care.
Minimum Education - Associate Degree / Diploma
Minimum Experience - Sufficient previous clinical experience
Required Certification/Registration - Oklahoma accepted RN license; BLS certification, Certification in Psychiatric Nursing
Preferred Education - Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Experience - One year of clinical experience in psychiatric nursing
