POSITION SUMMARY
The position requires that the instructor teach a full load of courses as assigned by their supervisor. Release time and/or contract hours may be considered when assigning an instructor’s teaching load. A full load is defined as 30 credit hours per year dependent upon release time earned through other assignments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Instructor
· Teaches assigned coursed in accordance with catalog descriptions and approved syllabi, revising official syllabi when necessary (Teaching load is at the discretion of the VPAA)
· Teaches evenings, off-campus, or through distance education delivery systems, if necessary
· Maintains competency in assigned instructional areas
· Maintains necessary academic credentials
· Complies with all appropriate academic standards as set forth by the accreditation agency of the college, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the Board of Regents for Oklahoma State University and the A&M Colleges, the College, and the particular programs
· Creates and maintains a professional Web page on the College Website with appropriate faculty bio, contact information and teaching/office schedule
· Participates in selection of Textbooks/Learning materials for courses taught
· Demonstrates satisfactory performance related to curriculum development to ensure that courses and programs meet current standards, are reviewed regularly, and provide evidence of necessary assessment practices
· Promotes a positive learning atmosphere within the classroom by maintaining order, demonstrating multiple approaches, employing appropriate technology, attending promptly to individual needs, and conducting class regularly and punctually
· Maintains a sound system of student evaluation, demonstrating fairness in grading and protecting the integrity of all evaluation tools
· Keeps accurate records and promptly submits all requested materials to appropriate administration
· Participates in the Department's efforts to assess learning
· Posts and adheres to an approved schedule of office hours for advising, enrolling, and tutoring students
· Uses all forms of academic warning frequently and consistently to enhance student success and retention
· Observes all accepted policies and procedures when enrolling students
· Supports College functions which include (but are not limited to) assemblies, commencement, enrollment sessions, in-service workshops, honors banquets, etc.
· Supports College events which may include (but are not limited to} concerts, activity events, luncheons, dinners, etc.
· Assists Department Chair in the recruitment and retention of faculty and staff
· Supports Departmental programs including meetings, training, program reviews, etc.
· Actively recruits prospective students, both traditional and non-traditional (aggressive recruiting may be mandatory to ensure the viability of some of the College's program)
· Academically advises students (specifically related to a student's academic assessment and placement, academic major and appropriate plan of study, enrollment, and intervention, when necessary)
· Academically counsels students (specifically related to career and transfer guidance, referral to instructional resources, etc.)
· Interacts with appropriate external audiences (alumni, community, private sector, etc.) to raise awareness of specific projects of the College in need of support (donations of funds, contributions of other assets, etc.)
· Maintains a professional attitude, cooperating with administration, faculty, staff, students, and community, and following accepted channels in all official campus communication
· Supports the vision, mission and goals of the college
· Accepts other related work responsibilities as assigned
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Department Chair
- Supervise the operation of the Department of Nursing, Allied Health, and Physical Education
- Collect each instructor’s syllabi, recommending revision in accordance with campus syllabi standards whenever necessary, and submit a final copy to the VPAA’s office
- Monitor faculty office hours and advisee loads
- Develop and maintain mentoring program for new faculty members
- Coordinate the development of new courses to meet the changing needs of the College and community
- Conduct annual evaluation of each instructor within the department
- Represent the Department at various campus functions (dinners, meetings, Senior Day, etc.)
- Arbitrate any disputes between instructors or between instructors and students
- Coordinate departmental and program initiatives such as distance learning, meeting specific requests of business/industry and other external organizations, and possible grant development and supervision
- Work with the VPAA to select, train, and evaluate appropriate adjunct instructors as needed
- Participates in recruitment and retention of faculty and staff
- Coordinate recruitment strategies and efforts within the department
- Coordinate the development and implementation of assessment activities for the department and departmental programs
- Develop effective departmental semester class schedules
- Help to promote a collegial and effective work environment
- Develop and monitor appropriate faculty assignments
- Monitor departmental and program budgets and recommend appropriate expenditures to the VPAA
- Coordinate enrollment and advisement of students by faculty
- Enroll and advise students during times when faculty are not available
- Assist with planning and supervising of resource development activities for the department
- Encourage and support grant activity among faculty
- Work with the VPAA and faculty to develop short-term, intermediate, and long-range planning for the Department
- Prepare a departmental report annually that summarizes the accomplishments of the department; discusses the departmental goals and objectives met; and describes the short-term, intermediate, and long-term departmental goals and objectives
- Maintain administrative office hours on campus
- Accept other related administrative responsibilities as assigned
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Director of Nursing
- Coordinates departmental staff meetings
- Oversees and administers departmental recruitment, advisement, and retention efforts
- Fosters relationships with the high school counselors and teachers, alumni, and community members
- Plans and coordinates continuing education opportunities in cooperation with NEO Continuing Education
- Coordinates the contributions and expenditures of donations to the department with the Director of the Development Foundation
- Fosters cooperation and mutual understanding between the Nursing Department and the chairs of other departments that instruct courses that support the nursing curriculum
- Assigns faculty functions and workload, and outlines channels of communication and lines of authority
- Plans student and faculty rotations
- Supervises and coordinates the activities of the nursing classes, laboratories, and clinical experiences
- Serves as a liaison between the College and health care agencies utilized for clinical experience and submit clinical requests in a timely manner
- Maintains current agreements with clinical facilities
- Serves as a liaison between the College and accrediting agencies
- Prepares reports for the accrediting agency and state board of nursing in a timely manner
- Certifies to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN) graduates qualifying for NCLEX-RN examination
- Works with the Advisory Committee for Program development and improvement
- Maintains accurate student and program records
- Submits requested materials to appropriate sources in a timely manner
- Reports faculty appointments, faculty qualifications, changes in administration, and changes in the Program to the OBN as required by OBN regulations
- Coordinates academic advisement for pre-nursing and nursing students
- Coordinates the Collaborative Bachelor of Science Nursing Program
- Plans for implementation of programs
- Oversees the annual departmental systematic program review
- Works with the faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs to design programs of study relevant to students and the community served
- Maintains contact with professional organizations
- Regularly attends meetings of the Oklahoma Associate Degree Nursing Programs Council of Directors
- Prepares the annual departmental budget proposal and submits to VPAA
- Administers the departmental budget ensuring the monies are spent appropriately
- Seeks input from faculty and support staff regarding budgetary needs of the department
- Coordinates faculty development
- Remains current with administrative and personnel policy and methods
- Maintains personnel records including sick days, professional organizations, licensure, and travel
- Coordinates curriculum development, implementation, evaluation and revision in cooperation with nursing faculty
- Supervises the evaluation and selection of textbooks
- Assists in the development of course syllabi and nursing student handbook
- Assists in maintaining an accurate and current departmental inventory
- Recommends and participates in the planning for and the obtaining of physical facilities, instructional equipment, and supplies to carry on activities of the program according to established objectives
- Teaches a course load as agreed upon with the VPAA
- Teaches LPN and Associate Degree Nursing articulation courses
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
· Master’s Degree in instructor’s primary teaching field with successful teaching experience is preferred. A candidate holding Bachelor’s degree plus supporting experience may be employed, with the understanding that the instructor must earn a Master’s degree in an institutionally approved teaching field within three years to remain employed by the College.
· Two years full-time equivalent experience in clinical nursing as a Registered Nurse within five years of first teaching position
· Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint (MS Publisher is a plus)
· Valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the states of Oklahoma and Missouri
