Position Summary : Provides assessment, consultation, and treatment for patients with potential speech language, cognitive or swallowing difficulties, and communication disorder. Provides detailed treatment plan for patients and family members to help minimize adverse impact of any speech or communication disorders.
Position Responsibilities :
- Performs assessments, establishes need and plan and evaluate treatment programs of patients with possible speech, language, cognitive or swallowing difficulties as part of treatment team
- Assesses communication skills (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment.
- Documents events in electronic health records including observations, evaluation results, and responses to treatment according to hospital policy.
- Develops treatment plans, interventions and / or materials for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders.
- Performs speech-language pathology treatments and instructs patients or family members in proper care and exercises as needed.
- Evaluates chart and reports patients' progress throughout the planned therapy program.
- Provides patient and staff education to ensure understanding of communicative / swallowing condition and treatment plan including developing educational materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
