What are the responsibilities and job description for the Evening Water Exercise Instructor position at Northern Middlesex YMCA?
GENERAL FUNCTION:

ON JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Lead fun, high-energy evening water fitness classes that are innovative, challenging, and suitable for all fitness levels.
2. Develop creative routines using music, equipment (e.g., water weights, noodles), and techniques that keep participants engaged and excited.
3. Willingness to innovate and experiment with new formats, music, and equipment.
4. Participants should follow all pool rules as posted and shower prior to entering the water.
5. Use moves specific to class: including a warm up, resistance/strength segment, continuous flow activity (varied by class type), balance and gentle stretch, cool down. Proper body alignment cues and information on specificity to muscle movements should be provided. Be prepared to break down complex moves.
6. Lead class with intention and motivation.
7. Lead class from water, deck, or combination of both.
8. Remain alert throughout the class and alert lifeguard to any suspected problems.
9. Report any incidents to the Healthy Living Director.
10. Maintain good attendance, provide supervisor with at least 2 week notice of any schedule change, assume total responsibility for obtaining qualified subs and notify The Healthy Living Director of any coverage changes.

- A level of member satisfaction as reflected in member retention, member surveys and other measurement tools.
- The highest level of service in each class.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Current nationally recognized Group Exercise certification as well as current CPR/AED.
- Certification in Water Fitness or Group Exercise (AFAA, ACE, or similar), or willingness to obtain.
- One-year minimum teaching experience preferred.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Strong communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Current knowledge of general health and fitness materials and application to class content.
- Ability to function as a team member.
- Ability to redirect class as needed and to monitor class behaviors for optimal opportunities for all.
- Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with all current and potential class members.
