We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer student to join our engineering team for co-op in the spring of 2025. This person will be part of a highly skilled and efficient team of engineers with significant combined experience in instrumentation for Semiconductor production environment. This position provides an opportunity to have a large impact in a rapidly growing company.
Pay: $20-30 an hour
Location: Must be located in Bay Area, CA. This position does not provide relocation or housing expense.
Responsibilities
- Develop and design opto-mechanical and mechanical components, modules, and subsystems for advanced metrology tools.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including scientists and engineers, to create innovative prototypes, systems, and testing equipment.
- Plan and execute test procedures to validate design concepts, ensuring reliability and performance.
- Oversee the entire design lifecycle, from initial requirements and feasibility studies to detailed designs, prototype testing, and final integration.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies through experiments, simulations, or analytical tools such as FEA.
- Create detailed documentation, including assembly instructions and test procedures, to support seamless development and manufacturing processes.
- Coordinate with suppliers to procure components and manage vendor relationships effectively.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Must be able to come into Fremont, CA office at 15 hours per week
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and adapt to new challenges.
- Effective time management and organizational skills to balance multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including design, tolerances, materials, and thermal dynamics.
- Highly motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving and learning
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for modeling and detailed drawings with an understanding of GD&T.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge or coursework in high-vacuum/ultra-high-vacuum systems.
- Familiarity with FEA analysis (stress, thermal, vibration, flow).
- Exposure to machining fundamentals or shop experience.
- Basic understanding of optics principles such as reflection, refraction, polarization, and ray tracing.
