Novelis – Davenport, is seeking an Operations Manager to join the Novelis team. The person in this role will report to the Plant Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the teams to perform as a world-class facility in Safety, Quality, and Efficiency.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Actively participate in maintaining a zero-incident safety culture.
• Live and champion the Novelis core values; Safety, Integrity, Customer Focus, Ownership, Excellence, and Teamwork.
• Implements and maintains the safety program in the production departments of the location. Maintains a constant vigilance for safe and healthy working conditions of employees. This includes responsibility for maintaining a high standard for housekeeping practices. Makes employees aware of job hazards directly and through subordinate supervisors and hourly leaders. Ensures proper safety training of employees and compliance with company safety rules and procedures.
• Leads and advises the production activities for the location across all shifts. Clarifies and coordinates tasks and provides individual coaching and support needed to keep team committed to achievement of defined goals. Assumes an important role in resolving production problems.
• Supervises up to 6 Production Supervisors, Leaders and production personnel (approximately 75 ) to ensure maximum production, quality and reliability levels for all plant equipment and operations in accordance with production plan.
• Achieves production plan, operating within costs as budgeted for stated production levels in the fiscal year. Controls recovery of materials and other direct and indirect costs.
• Develops and maintains a smooth functioning communications system with departments and other personnel. Ensures good communications among and between shifts, crews, and peers.
• Investigates accidents to resolve and eliminate the root cause.
• Conducts all supervisory responsibilities concerning the hiring, training, counseling, corrective action, and performance appraisal, assigns and prioritizes work for all subordinates. Coaches and supports team and plays a key role in promoting team culture.
• Recommends replacement of existing equipment as needed and monitors actual spend against estimates. Accumulates' costs and statistical data on major repairs to assist in long range planning.
• Partners with Human Resources to ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement in areas such as overtime and seniority and works to resolve employee grievances in a timely and equitable manner.
• Partners with the Continuous Improvement Manager and is a facilitator for Continuous Improvement implementation.
• Works closely with Quality Manager to establish a consistent process for the application of quality improvement and with the Supply Chain Manager to ensure that all customer delivery expectations are met.
• Work collaboratively with Maintenance and Engineering departments to support initiatives and activities for reliable people, processes, and equipment. Work collaboratively to improve efficiency in the scheduling of equipment and improve packing performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Four-year degree in Engineering, Business, or other technical related field.
• 5 years of managerial experience in a heavy industrial environment.
• 5 years manufacturing experience, including leadership of production teams with confirmed knowledge of plant operations and processes.
• Strong social skills - oral and written communication skills are needed.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Proven process improvement using lean concepts.

Preferred Requirements:

• Aluminum and/or metals experience.
• Lean or six sigma certifications.
• Experience working in a Union environment.
• Experience working with the demands of a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
