Position Summary: The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (OFNS) employs a workforce of over 8,000 employees in 1,500 locations to prepare and serves New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) students over 150 million meals annually. To carry out this work OFNS annually uses $300M of equipment, food, supplies and services purchased under contract, and $40M of Federally supplied food commodities.

The Compliance Coordinator will serve in an auditing capacity for the Office of Food and Nutrition Services’ reimbursable programs. This position will support the implementation and monitoring of accountability programs determining student meal participation and recommend areas of improvement in this capacity. The Compliance Coordinator will work with senior management to develop strategies and implement policies necessary to the Office of Food and Nutrition Services’ reimbursable programs. Responsibilities include field visits to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines and reporting. Performs related work.

Key Relationships: Relationships will be fostered with the Office of Food and Nutrition Services (OFNS) staff, and with interested stakeholders regarding OFNS initiatives in the NYCPS.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates programs providing important community services through the Office of Food and Nutrition Services; works collaboratively within the agency to secure the best outcomes.
  • Creates tools for the evaluation of programs; performs analyses and reviews program plans; assesses current processes and builds new systems to streamline workflow. Works cross-functionally on a routine basis to provide for the best outcomes regarding community and organizational needs.
  • Develops and maintains surveys to assess existing programs and plans related to public food services and other of factors of community and organizational importance.
  • Assists with the rollout of major changes to school food services.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to staff in techniques in program implementation and management.
  • Collaborates with OFNS staff and management regarding OFNS initiatives to ensure successful outcomes.

Qualification Requirements

Minimum

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.

Preferred

  • Experience in education-related areas, personnel or administration.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent and effective data management and project planning skills.
  • Ability to proactively identify key issues and risks to meet short and long-term goals.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed, with a history of success.

Salary

$60,733 (New Hire Rate)

$69,844 - $94,279 (Incumbent - 2 years of full-time continuous City service)

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
