Job Overview
The part-time Public Health Specialist provides coordination and implementation of the Health Department’s community outreach and engagement strategy. This position leads Health Department communication efforts and supports other Health Department programming and activities.
The Specialist works a part-time schedule of 24 hours per week to meet the needs of the Health Department This includes flexibility to attend meetings and events held on evenings and weekends. The Specialist may be required to work extended and/or off hours in the event of a public health or city emergency for risk communication and other assignments.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the Health Department’s community outreach, promotion, and engagement strategy, including event planning, development of social media and website content, and development of other Department communications.
Represent the department at community events and meetings.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of all communication strategies implemented.
Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).
Foster development and maintenance of community partnerships through support of the Healthiest Oak Creek Coalition and other initiatives.
Assist in planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of programs, services, and grant-funded activities in accordance with guidelines.
Utilize appropriate communication methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, lifestyles, and physical abilities.
Maintain security and confidentiality and adhere to ethical principles and Oak Creek Health Department policy in the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of data and information.
Participates in Department and community emergency response training and drills in support of disaster preparedness consistent with job classification.
Qualifications
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in public health, community health education, health sciences, or a related field. Master’s degree in public health or a related field in preferred.
At least one year experience working in public health required.
Possession of a valid Wisconsin Motor Vehicle operator's license. A personal vehicle (with insurance coverage as required by the City) must be available for use at work as required.
