Oak Ridge Industries is a metal fabricator specializing in construction, machining, welding and field service work. We are seeking to add a Quality and Safety Manager to our team at our facility in Washington, NC. Oak Ridge has been in business since 1996 and offers a stable work environment and generous benefits package.

Oak Ridge is currently working towards ISO 9001:2015 registration. The Quality and Safety Manager would need to have knowledge of the ISO process to champion this effort.

Job Summary

The Quality and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the highest standards of product quality and workplace safety at our metal fabrication facility. This role includes leadership in implementing and maintaining quality management systems, particularly ISO 9001 standards, and developing a robust safety program to protect employees and ensure regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in quality assurance, safety management, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety awareness.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Management Systems:

  • Lead the implementation, certification, and ongoing compliance of ISO 9001 standards.
  • Develop, document, and maintain quality policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Conduct regular internal audits and manage third-party audits.
  • Oversee inspection processes to ensure product quality meets or exceeds customer specifications.
  • Analyze and resolve quality issues using root cause analysis and corrective action processes.

Safety Management:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive workplace safety program.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and other applicable safety standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents; recommend corrective and preventive measures.
  • Lead safety training programs and promote safety awareness across the organization.
  • Collaborate with operations to ensure safety considerations are integrated into manufacturing processes.

Process Improvement:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities for quality and safety.
  • Utilize tools such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to enhance quality, productivity, and safety.

Team Leadership and Training:

  • Manage and mentor the quality assurance and safety teams, ensuring appropriate training and professional development.
  • Foster a culture of quality-consciousness and safety awareness throughout the organization.

Reporting and Metrics:

  • Develop and maintain quality and safety metrics, dashboards, and reports for management review.
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to quality and safety, driving corrective actions as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality management, occupational health and safety, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of quality and safety management experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably metal fabrication.
  • Proven track record in ISO 9001 implementation and workplace safety program development.
  • Hands-on experience with quality tools such as SPC, FMEA, PPAP, and APQP.
  • Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in using quality and safety management software and tools.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards, including OSHA, related to metal fabrication.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing facility environment with potential exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
  • May require occasional travel to customer sites or suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Manager (CQM), ISO Lead Auditor, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Familiarity with advanced manufacturing technologies and automation systems.
