Job Description:
The Supervisor, Distribution Center Operations role at OSJL is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a specified area within OSJL’s Distribution Center (the “DC”). This position leads a team of associates and ensures that workflow, tasks, and fulfillment operations are executed timely and accurately. In addition to operations support, this role also oversees the safe and efficient handling of the equipment that is used to support the DC’s operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise conveyor mechanics, Material Handling Equipment (“MHE”) mechanics, and maintenance and fulfillment associates on the second shift and provide them with coaching, motivation, performance feedback, and development opportunities.
- Train and assist with the onboarding of new conveyor mechanics, MHE mechanics, and maintenance and fulfillment associates.
- Schedule and manage team workloads to meet daily and seasonal demands.
- Assist the Area Manager to ensure that conveyor and maintenance operations continue as planned, minimizing disruption to the induction process.
- Evaluate maintenance operations, inspection schedules, and general equipment standards. Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
- As necessary, perform basic maintenance and repair work on the conveyor and MHE.
- Provide oversight support in outbound operations to maintain productivity standards.
- Guide shipping and palletizing associates on workflow direction for timely loading and shipping.
- Conduct regular safety checks and ensure adherence to all safety protocols.
- Act as the DC leadership team’s primary information source for all conveyor, MHE mechanics, maintenance inquiries and concerns. to.
- Collaborate with other departments within the DC (i.e., induction, palletizing & shipping) to promote seamless operations.
Qualifications:
- 2 or more years of experience supervising a team in a warehouse environment is required.
- 2 or more years of experience working in a maintenance or MHE environment is required.
- A strong understanding of conveyor maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting is required.
- Role requires an ability to perform basic maintenance and supervise repairs to mechanical and conveyor equipment.
- Experience in a fulfillment environment is preferred.
- Proven ability to supervise, motivate, and develop a team is required.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, organizational, and time management skills.
- Experience with warehouse management or order management systems is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to write, read and speak in English; bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to quality and accuracy.
- Ability to adapt and willingness to spend time on the DC floor working with DC staff.
- Willingness to correct and work with associates on best practices.
Work Environment:
- Primarily works in the Distribution Center. The warehouse environment is characterized by temperature extremes, noise, movement of conveyors and equipment, and other conditions associated with the operation of a high volume distribution center.
- Occasionally works in an office environment remaining stationary at a desk, table, or computer workstation for short periods of time. using near vision for reading and computer tasks.
