Ogden Weber Technical College is Hiring a Student Support Counselor Near Ogden, UT

Under the direction of the Student Services Director, responsibilities center on providing excellent customer service to students, visitors, and college personnel, while providing pre/post enrollment counseling, career guidance, coordination with regional sponsoring entities, and personal counseling support.

  1. Provide counseling services in accordance with legal and ethical standards of counseling. 
  2. Provide career guidance and mentoring as it relates to technical training and entry into the workforce. 
  3. Provide retention and completion support for program faculty. 
  4. Work with all students to achieve success, including first-generation college, bilingual, single parents, LGBTQ, low-income or otherwise at-risk. 
  5. Consult with students, teachers, parents, administrators, sponsors, and other pertinent individuals to resolve behavioral, academic, or other problems that interfere with student success and employment. 
  6. Provide conflict mediation and intervention strategies for students and faculty and ensure due process is followed when resolving issues and complaints. 
  7. Provide crisis intervention and service referral for alcohol and drug programs, mental health counseling, and other outside service needs. 
  8. Serve on the Student Assistance and Intervention Team (SAIT). 
  9. Maintain current knowledge of all policies and procedures and advise students of College policies. 
  10. Facilitate and assist students with ADA requirements, as needed, and consult with faculty to determine and provide appropriate program accommodations 
  11. The incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements: 
 
  1. Master’s degree in school counseling, social work, rehabilitation counselor (or related field) is required.
  2. Applied knowledge of behavioral intervention and crisis intervention techniques is required. 
  3. Experience helping students reach their potential while using a variety of skills such as empathy and cultural sensitivity. 
  4. Knowledge of community resources, e.g., substance abuse, mental health, and other community services. 
  5. Demonstrate the ability to write comprehensive, concise reports and be proficient with Microsoft Office. 
  6. Exceptional judgment, interpersonal skills, and verbal skills both one-on-one and with teams. 
  7. Demonstrate the ability to work with individuals of all racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. 
  8. Spanish speaking proficiency desirable. 

Physical Requirements: 

  1. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform most work; however, there will be some walking; standing; bending; reaching; and carrying light items. Special physical demands are not required of the position.
  2. Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  3. Typically, the work will be performed on site at the main campus between the hours of 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Fridays. Hours subject to change. 
  4. This position may be eligible for up to two days a week of telecommuting from home. Incumbents are expected to have a suitable home office setup that allows for productive telecommuting work environment.
  5. Consistent attendance is essential to fulfilling the responsibilities of the role and maintaining a productive work environment. 

Working Hours: Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. (The incumbent is expected to work one late night until 6:00 PM)
